protesters are usually hypocrites anyway. I mean they're out there pleading for the US not to fight yet they're willing to beat someone up because they're in the armed forces.

To rougly paraphrase Jack in "A Few Good Men"

"You sit there and enjoy the freedom that I provide and then question the manner in which I provide it, I'd rather you just said, 'Thank you', and went on your way"

That is inexcusable behavior by those people. Those types of people who get pissed at the people serving in our military and disrespect them make me so mad that I have to stop typing othewise too many bad words will come out of my mouth and I'll be banned. I just can't believe that people don't appreciate how great our country is and don't appreciate the people who protect & serve it with their lives.

To anyone in the military past, present, or future ----- Thank you!

It's another example of the stupidity of the protestors.

Stay proud Marine, you are part of a long, proud and honorable tradition.

ex-swabbie here.

There's quite a difference between appreciating the "greatness" of America and appreciating those who fight for whatever it may be.

You are one of a proud few. The fact that protestors for peace get so violent makes them lose credibility.

Now, that said I'd like to make a point. Our armed forces consist of people who have taken it upon themselves to make a conscious choice to lay their lives on the line to do what our leaders think is in the best interests of our country to defend our lives, our freedoms, and that of others. Sometimes the leaders do not make the wisest choices, however, the armed forces do not try to play politics. They are not there to do diplomacy, they are just asked to accomplish goals, and are the best at doing such in the world.

They are not the ones that decide what must be done, they are just there to serve what our country decides is the best for it. They've chosen to put their faith in our leaders. I believe their willingness to serve is something that's hard to find. Why attack people who are only doing their best to find a way to serve their country and the ideals it stands for? If you disagree with the decisions argue with the person that makes them. The armed forces does not make decisions whether or not to take action against an enemy, it just does what it's asked in the most effiecient way.

I respect you for your choice. I'm not cut out for combat, maybe at some point I'll see about going to work for a company that works as a defense contractor as an engineer. I think I could do more good there.

i've been looking for that picture (I think it made it on here) of the military parade where the only guy standing is the guy in the wheelchair, but I can't find it. seemed appropriate though.

I seriously doubt some punk ass protestor is going to try and slap some buffed Marine in the face and I doubt even more that a Marine would let some weak pukes like that slap him in the face ...let alone spit on him.

After spending a decade in the US military, I feel that you Sir are doing a tremendous service which most are unwilling to do and without which this country wouldn't be in the position it is. We are disliked by many due to our power and when we choose to exercise it we are condemned, however, when we choose not to.....we are condemned. It is indeed a tough position to be in but with people such as yourself who voluntarily choose to serve our country we will always come out on top. Fair winds and following seas my friend.

While I don't agree with why you're being sent, I none the less salute you, Sir.

You might be surprised, they're pretty brazen here. Besides, there was one of him, and many of them. I realize marines are taught to defend themselves, but they're also taught about what do to when the odds are against them.

Don't let it bother you too much. You're doing the country a greater service then those idiots will do in their lifetime.

sorry to hear that, you must've run into some real idiots. It's not the armed forces they're supposed to be protesting, its the administration. I personally dont agree with the war, but stuff like that is just moronic.

Btw, were they French? You probably could have gotten them to surrender right there in the street if you pulled out your peacemaker!

Oh no i'm sure they were american...

Yeah I guess I just hope it wasn't true as it would really piss me off if I witnessed it. I can assure you that it wouldn't just be him against them if I did. Even if I was against the war I would have been extremeley pissed off at those protestors. This guy isn't the one making the decision, he is only doing his duty and he shouldn't be harrassed by anyone.

Marines have self control. So I bet a Marine would let some slouchy sophist protestors do that to him without doing something vengeful.

This sort of thing happened in the Vietnam era, and I am sorry history repeated itself. People can be such asses. Anyone who attacks another while advocating peace is a hypocrite. Best wishes to you.

There were some protesters that I walked up on this weekend and they asked if I was in the military once they saw my haircut. I told them that I was in fact a US Marine and they proceded to curse at me, try to start a fight, and spit at me. I was completely taken back. I mean here I am, about to go to war to protect the liberties and freedoms that even give these people the right to protest in the first place, and they are acting like they hate me and everything I worked for.

I mean, after all the training I went through in the last 8 months to become what I am I get out and see that people are basically ready to slap me in the face. Thanks protesters, glad to know that you're grateful for all of the things we go through to keep you safe.

you see i really don't understand those protestors shouting curses at you. I mean you're just doing your job to ensure their freedom. They don't realize that it is because of our military that they even HAVE the freedom to shout at you. In any case if they don't like the policy it's rather stupid to blame you, they should write to their congress members or something. It's like someone cursing, shouting, and spitting at a mailroom worker at Microsoft just because he had some BSOD problems.

Anyways just to let you know there are many people who are EXTREMELY APPRECIATIVE of what you guys do including me. The sheer amount of sacrifices you guys make can never be fully expressed. I commend you guys and sincerely hope those idiots have not deterred you in your undertakings :)
