I got my pilots license!!!!

If you plan to make a career out of it... keep goin for your instrument and commercial ratings, and DO get a 4-year degree! If you're lucky, you can find a way to skip the whole CFI route but for a lot of folks it is a valuable stepping stone. All depends on your situation. Aviation is also huge on networking, many times it's now what you know but who you know, you know?

Don't even bother trying to go that route. If he wants to be a commercial pilot he should join the air force and fly a cargo plane. He'll have wayyyyyyyyyyy more flight hours and he'll have experience flying heavy aircraft.

A Civ pilot license and a 4 year degree won't do anything for you.


That's really funny, because the civ route worked for me and 90% of the pilots I fly with....

military isn't for everyone. It's an ADDITIONAL option; not the only one.

The Air Force is cutting 40K civilian and active military slots right now. They are WAY over budget. You will need some luck finding a flight slot.

BTW, how much does it cost/time does it take to receive your private pilots license?

True, where I used to work, about half of the pilots had a military background and half civilian only.

congrats, and welcome to the club!

That is near the average for the private. Very few get them in the minimum, I was close at 45 hours. That was after an unplanned off-airport landing that grounded the plane for about 6 weeks. It takes a few flights to knock off the rust after that long a vacation:p;)

Heh, my neighbor has 9 airplanes. One of which is a CJ-6A, a chinese aircraft very similar to a YAK-52. We went up a few weeks ago and I did rolls and loops. It was fun. :)

Instrument rating takes a lot of work and study. I thought it was cool when I got my private but I really felt like I had accomplished something when I got my instrument rating last year. It definitely makes you a much better and safer pilot, not to mention all the flights you will be able to make that you couldn't do VFR.
