Congrats! Welcome...

Get Nachenberg for CS31 (it'll probably be the 4-6 class). Don't worry about the class's time. Nachenberg is the best CS professor and he's also the funnest.

my friends @ LA are lovin' it. no one ever complains about the dorm food there. that stuff is grub. lots of good looking people too. unlike other uc's. =P

Congratulations. I loved my four years at UCLA.

So far I've heard from Carnegie Mellon, and they're flying me out there to wine and dine me. I'll take that any day!

I'm currently a grad student at Pitt. Pittsburgh is kind of a bad place to live. Everyone here is old (second oldest population in the country), there is no diversity, no good food, and nothing to do other than get drunk.

congrats!!! you will have a blast there! I loved it there.

stay far far away from Carnegie, it's a depressing place IMO.

Come and visit me! I'm going to be a SHA next year!! w00t! In the dorms for one more year and then hopefully a clinical SHA!

WELCOME TO UCLA PUNK! 😀

I've heard from all my schools, sans my alma mater. They all do the same thing, except three of them have chosen the same weekend to have their thing. Kind of sucks. B.U. was gonna send us to see Blue Man group, hope the other schools do something fun at least.

congrats!

i got into ucla..but then withdrew after the first quarter. stuff happened but im happy where im at now. HP! 😛

Oops, correction. I'm not talking about the general school orientation but the before hand orientation/open house for the specific major. It was so boring, simple, uninteresting, and stupid.

oh ok then i totally agree with you, that thing sucked a tremendous amount of arse 😀 my parents wanted to see the place so i was forced to go

i was a cs major and one of the undergrads who was doing a presentation for us was such a freaking moron...i do not know how or why they let him speak...he was talking crap like "I would have rather gone to UT Austin but I got rejected there...blah blah blah" way to recruit new Bruins numb nuts

oh as for the real orientation session in the summer i suggest you sign up ASAP so you can get into one of the earlier sessions and get your classes you want...it's a behoach trying to pick courses when they are all waitlisted 🙂

also if you don't like athletes don't go to the first few orientations 😉 j/k atheletes get priority enrollment :disgust: 😀

sign up for classes as soon as possible, or else you won't have any choice. I went to the 2nd to last orientation session and allllll the classes were full, ended up taking geology and ethics.. eww..

paulee
class of '01

depending on the major...people would say Cal or UCLA #1

#2 would definitely be UCSD

i'm not too sure where the rest fall... UCI has a pretty decent CS program though

<< what was your gpa? and what did you score on sat9? >>

My report card said 3.766, but that's with 9th grade included. I believe UCLA doesn't count 9th grade, so it was much higher (my lowest grades were in 9th grade).

Sat1 was 710 math, 620 verbal. Sat2 Math 2c was 800, 730 writing, 700 chemistry. Good luck...

<< welcome to westwood! (you are coming here right?) lol >>

I think so 🙂 Is that the best place?
>>

damn...you only need a 3.766 to get in? Maybe I should consider applying there.

My school doesn't weigh AP classes, will UCLA weigh the GPA to reflect AP classes?

Also, do they look for a lot of extracurricular activies? About the only thing I have is science olypiad 🙁

UCs give you extra points for taking AP courses, I had a 3.83 in high school but including the AP grade points bumped me to about a 4.2
I took like 10 APs though...which were kind of a waste cuz i didn't pass with high enough scores to get credit in most of them 😀 lol

the more ECs the better...do you play any sports? although it's better to excel at a few selects things them put up a bunch of baseless crap...say for example if you were Key Club Pres or Yearbook Editor versus just being in a bunch of clubs in name only like alot of people do.

As for grades...it varies by major if you want engineering i'll have to say you need to have a pretty high gpa and sat scores...if you're scores are a bit on the low side i'd suggest applying undeclared...they seem to be more leninent when focusing on stats...know people going here who got 1100s...and maybe a couple of APs at the most...and nothing too spectacular on the extra-curricular side as well
hope this helps...anything to up my post count 😀

The only EC I have is the the Science Olypiad last year and this year...maybe next year. Nothing else, I'm not athletic at all, and don't have any spare classes to take something like yearbook etc...and our school has no clubs except for ski club, which I might do next year also....

Does UCLA require SATs or will they also accept ACT?

Cal? Whats that? UC-Berkeley isn't the top? I applied for electrical engineering. If I got into UCLA, is it a reasonable conclusion that I got into the other UCs? (santabarbara, davis, san diego.... applied to berkeley too but I thought that was the 'best' of the UC's)

Cal=berkeley

I'm really confused now--the letter they send me says I've been "recommended" for admission to UCLA. I called them up, and asked them if I was accepted, and they replied that I wasn't "rejected." They didn't want to say for sure that I was accepted...

Why can't they just say if I was accepted or not :|

Is the Engineering Open House worth going to? I live near San Jose, so it wouldn't be that far away to drive...

Take the SAT. Most East/West coasts schools prefer them and are more used to them. The only schools that like the ACTs are generally central schools like in Iowa and stuff.
