2 down, 1 to go.. transunion is pretty anal about identity info.. currently i dont have any credit cards, only thing is a visa debit card from my bank and a student loan.. it asks for a student loan #, but the only thing i found on my student loan papers is my SSN which didnt take.. gonna have to make a call on monday about that. equifax/experian gave a list of lenders that i had to choose correctly.

fico score of 708 (equifax)/711 (experian) .. i had a 60+ day delinquicy on an account in 1998. my parents bailed me out. i think it was like ~$10K or so (nothing to show for it since it all went to my ex-gf).. which is the reason i dont carry credit cards at the moment. i wonder how much that affected my score. 3 more years before it goes away.. yeah!

i need to start building my credit back up(other than my student loans)... lol. i guess getting a job would help. tried applying for a AMEX Blue late last year and got rejected.. but they just sent me a blue offer in the mail (first time i didnt get anything in the mail, but they were giving out those card readers) and im tempted to try again.. but i think they'll just reject me anyways.

looks like i should go with one of those cards mentioned above..

Im interested in this as well as I just applied for my first credit card, Discover, and was also turned down. Which of the following two do you suggest, Citibank or Capital One? Thanks

Citibank is where to go if you're are a student. If not, you need to go to one of the companies that specialize in sub-prime cards - Capital One and Cross Country Bank are the 2 biggest. (Capital One usually has lower fees.) There are others but most of those screw you with stuff like $100 application fees, $100+ acceptance fees, monthly 'participation fees' and junk like that.

Well I'm 21 and last summer I applied for an Amex student card. I didn't have a job at the time and I still got $3500 credit. I would stay away from cards that are secured or have an annual fee. It's not worth it. One thing I would recommend is to stay away from the hot deals forum. I owe $1400 because of that damn forum lol. Luckily it will be paid off by the end of this month. I'm still puzzled at the person who got 9k worth of debt at age 21 DAMN!

Another experiment sought to determine whether other Kazaa users were trying to exploit this vulnerability by downloading files from other people's computers. The researchers placed dummy personal files with titles such as Credit Card.xls and Inbox.dbs on a server. In a 24-hour period, the credit card file was downloaded four times by four unique visitors, and the inbox file was downloaded four times by two unique visitors.

This method should have you as much credit as you want. It just won't be yours!
Joke, don't really do this.

barney: lol.. step away for HD sloowly.. 😉 and about the 9K thing, it aint hard.. i was ~20-21 when i incurred my ~$10K debt.. i wouldnt have had any if i didnt have a gf at the time who liked to spend my money (er... credit) 😱... single life is grand.. nobody to spend money on except myself. 🙂

I am a college student, 19 years old and I work during the summers. I receive credit card offers daily in the mail. I finally chose discover and applied and was turned down. Didnt make much sense to me since I was "pre-approved" but oh well. So, Citibank is the best way to go in my case? If so, which Citibank card? And should I have trouble being approved? Thanks

I have a question, will it hurt my credit history if i check my credit score through Equifax/Experian ?
No, inquiries made by you, marketing inquiries made by people looking to extend you credit, or inquiries made by businesses you already have an account with (to see if they want to up your limit or whatever) do not affect your score or show up when others make an inquiry.

i got my citibank platinum select mastercard when i was 18... no problem... 700 limit, but i didn't really have that much money to spend anyways... are you a student? if you're a student it does make things easier........

Some of the things that affect your FICO scores: (from the internet)

My average is 798 and my "wife's" average is around 820 or so. Lenders drool over us. 😀

yeah go for a student card if you attend a college.

I'm 19 and got my first CC this year, $1000 limit Visa and I basically had no previous credit.

Bump, any comments about the Citibank Dividend Platinum Select card for Students? Think I may apply for that one.
