I got bored with the errors in the drivers, and having no one believe me.. so I made a page with a few examples of them.. The info is on the pages..

Massive errors with whats going to be the biggest game of the year.. Unreal Tournament 2003.. The errors are so big and noticable, that the game is unplayable with them.

There is also a HUGE and very annoying problem that affects Quake 3 and Quake 3 based games..

Enjoy... and Discuss...

Well, a patch will soon be out for UT2k3. There are some issues with the game right now, the problem may not be the your video drivers.

I couldnt get the refresh rate to work with the 2.2 drivers. It was always stuck at 60hz in games.

Im for some reason very sensitive to that, so I cant play games then anyway.. oh, the screen was also de-interlaced or whatever, every second line was missing on the screen.

Plus I dont know how the 2.2 displayed UT anyway.

The Quake3 bug was there with some drivers I got back in feburary, so I went back to the first set.. and it worked again for a while, till I upgraded

I'm surprised you can run it at all.

It's likely slow, but it should be rendered correctly in spite of the slow CPU.

Best I could tell he's not. But don't quote me on that. :)

There is an updated driver that was pointed to from a post in the video forum. Looking in the right forum, or even posting in the right forum might get you better results.

I have the 9700 Pro and am not having any of the problems you are. Though like the person posted above, running on a PII-400, it's amazing you can even move faster thean about 1 frame every couple of seconds.

Link to the 6178 drivers

I'm running a AIW 7500 64MB card without any of the issues you posted on your web page, O yea, I also have a 1.2Ghz t-bird pushing the data.

Well, I should be more clear on a few things.. from what I've heard, the 8500 works fine, as does the 9700.. I guess ATI just forgot about anything older then the 8500.. Its either that or the ATI fan boys are to ashamed to admit there card/drivers arent so hot..

Yes I run it on a PII 400.. and I get about 20-40FPS.. Definitly playable by my standards :)

I usually play RTCW, and in high action seens I get about 3-7 FPS, so I've gotten 'used' to it.
Funny though, I get about the same speeds with my TNT (in RTCW). There are occasions where my framerate is up to about 80, but thats when im staring at a wall. The T&L thats 'supposed' to be on this card does NOTHING.

Im a student damnit! not a millionaire like you guys :)

But anyway, im trying to get a new job asap, once I do, I'll be upgrading to somthing like an XP 2200, and 512meg PC2700 DDR...

Odd.. So maybe because my CPU isnt pushing enough geometry, the card cant render textures properly? I guess it could happen. I wonder what happened to the Charisma Engine? "Transformation, Clipping and Lighting (T&L) at greater then 40 million triangles/second"

Just a side quesiton, does anyone know how many triangles a typical CPU can process? Say a PIII 1Ghz.. just curious the comparison.

Just a side NOTE, I cant overclock this card either.. I think I need a video card bios update I guess..

Your Computer is way below the minimum specs for these games.

I have no doubt you have "issues".

Don't blame ATI. Upgrade your rig or at least O/C your CPU and quit whining.

Okay you're pissed because ATI drivers have bugs with a game that has higher requirements than your current system and you expect them to do something about it? Thats ridiculous.

Im not complaining about the frame rate, I can handle that. But like Viper GTS said, even though I have a slow CPU, it should be able to render the textures properly.

Maybe you dont understand how rendering works, but the game should display properly on my screen, maybe not at high frame rates, but walls and floors should not be transparent.

Also not the quake3 issue. My computer fits the Quake3 specs fine, but why all the rendering errors.

Try General Hardware (or video or tech support forums).

When's the last time you did a clean install of your O/S?

You're complaining you're a student and yet you seem to have the latest games at $50 a pop. For the price of two of those games you can upgrade to a very nice CPU and will actually enjoy your games (play them over again - they will seem completely different). You can probably overclock your CPU to 500Mhz which will get you to the minimum for a lot of the newer games.

;)

I borrowed the game from a friend. I havent bought a computer game since Tribes II first came out.. and that was a present.

I could buy a new CPU for what you said, but I also need a mobo, a case, ram... just not feesable.

Also, I do have enough money sitting in my bank right now to actually do it. I just want a job to be able to replace the money in a pay cheque or two.. Im not RossMAN sorry :)

Oh, one more MAJOR issue, with a few drivers back, (not sure when they fixed it) Half-Life and any game based on it (TFC, Counter-Strike) was unplayable on this card unless you edited the config.cfg and added two lines. For some reason their smoothing technology was turned on for this card. But only the 8500 or better can do it in hardware. So the smoothing was off loaded to the CPU, which made the game horribly slow. It was a tiny slip up, but a HUGE mistake.

Im just annoyed.. Its been a year now, and there are still HUGE issues with the drivers, and the MOST popular games.. They should be fixed.

I guess I was just spoiled with pretty well bug free nVidia drivers for the three years prior to 'upgrading' to this card..
