Ok, in all seriousness, you shouldn't feel so bad. Even though doing 74 in a 55 sounds realy drastic and horrible, it's not so bad. In every 55mph (let alone 50 mph) section of road I've ever seen, the VAST majority of people were doing at least 70 and up. I'm no advocate of speeding, but despite the laws, driving considerably slower than the majority of trafic around you can be just as hazardous (if not more) than speeding. (I'm not advocating speeding though)

Also, having a rare slip up is completely normal and nothing to beat yourself up over. If your record is clean, you don't have any real reason to worry. Most likely you'll get no points that will raise your insurance. Take the class and pay the fine, and it will be over with. Just be carefull to follow the rules and not get a ticket any time soon. You don't want it to become a pattern where they will not let you off easy and screw up your insurance rates. (let alone having an accident and getting hurt)

Oh hell! NEVER just pay the fine and be done with it. With a record half as clean as yours, you're eligable to take traffic school and have zero insurance penalties. You pay a fine, take a day long class (not very expensive) and you get no points and your insurance does not go up.

If you already just accepted the ticket and paid it, you're likely out of luck.

Always choose the school option, or even take it to court. In court you plead no contest (even if you're clearly guilty) and if you're record is good, they will sentence you to a fine and class. (with no points for the insurance, and usually a reduced fine...)

Nope. Nothing to worry about. You really have very little chance of winning a case (unless you have a lawyer or video of the incident). It's the cop's word against yours, so yours gets dismissed.

It's really very easy. Basically they call your name when it's your turn, and they state the charge. You plead what you plead (smartest plead is no contest or guilty) and they state the sentence (fine + school) and that's that.

I've seen people argue it but they always were totally ignored and got the same fine+school as everyone else.

There's really nothing to it. It's not like you commited a serious crime. No court is really going to be a drawn out horrible experience for something this small.

Why are speeding tickets reported to the insurance? dont u have any privacy - it is non of their buisness. Unless u had an accident they have to pay.

Welcome to the club. If you haven't gotten a ticket in several years odds are they'll let you plea it to a lower ticket. Might be a 60 in a 55 or maybe better.

Sorry but that has to be one of the dumbest things I've read here and I've seen plenty 😛 Drivers in America can't even handle 55/65 mph speed limits. Let them go 90 and the fatality rate will be much higher.

When you go to court with a clean record, you will most likely sit with the assistant DA and he will offer you something better than what you would have received if you just plead guilty... for example, i got a ticket for not stopping at a stop sign.... and yes i plead not guilty (even though i was)...
Pleading guilty = 3 points and $150 fine

When I went to court the assistant DA offered to give me 2 points and $100 fine right off the bat, before we even went infront of the judge...

Just make the trip... it could save you a bunch of money on your car insurance 😉

we just need one lane for going a set speed, like 90 or 100. if everyone goes the same speed, its still safe

How do you rear-end somebody moving at your speed?

you're assuming someone merging into the lane would already be going that fast. I've seen people merge into fast lanes going a lot slower than what the flow of traffic is moving at. I'd hate to see the result of a person merging into an ultra fast lane at the wrong time only going 65 MPH and get rearended by someone going 100.

Fvck that... always go to court... get the fine reduced... also you never know when the cop doesnt show up and you get off. PLUS you can get out of the points BECAUSE you have such a good record.
