I purchased a Triple Rectifier head about 5 years ago and ended up taking it back. It was the biggest waste of about $1200 (if i remember right). I was very disapointed in the overall sound qualityI've still got my 5150 stack. I've changed the tubes in it and it's got some monster low end and a great tight sound. I was so surprised how much better it sounded over the triple rec.

That costs more than my guitar...although, my guitar is definitely worthy of being plugged into that head.

I'm not particulary fond of the triple rec myself, but the thing with mesa's is that you have to tweak them. You cannot just walk up to one and scoop the mids, boost the bass and treble and expect good tone like you can with a marshall. I sat for over an hour fine tuning one tone on one channel just now and the results are mind blowing.
Peavey's just sound like plastic to me :\
