I maintain to this day that the reason Enterprise was cancelled was that all of the loyal fans just downloaded the PDTV ripped episodes off of IRC instead of watching them on TV.

Nope, I've managed to avoid anything more than five minutes of Star Trek until the TV land marathon. I did hear the second movie was good, so I'll have to watch it.

Tonight I did actually watch an entire episode of TNG for the first time (once again because of channel surfing). It was good, but I was pissed that it was a two part episode with the second part airing tomorrow, hopefully. It's too early to compare TNG with TOS, but I'm interested enough to watch more.
 
A lot of the stories in the original seris are actually based on the writing of classic Scifi authors ... (ie: The Planet-Killer recently shown in digital-remastered form & written by Harlan Ellison) which is why despite the dated special effects & over-the-top acting its still my favorite.

The first couple seasons on Next generation were pretty good too & although DS9 started slow, it became my favorite of the new seris.. I also really enjoyed the original movies with the old cast ... especially 2 through 4 (although in order to really "get" #2 you need to have seen the episode of the OS called "Space Seed")

And finally, no OP ... you are not a "Trekkie" until you have seen the ENTIRE original seris at least once (several dozen time is better) & can name every one of the bridge crew of both OS & NG Enterprise's at a bare minimum! 😉

TOS was my least favorite of the five series, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it.

I've seen Space Seed, so now I at least get all of those "Khannnnnn" references, although I assume that line is from the movie. I don't think I'll ever be a real Trekkie, but I do intend to eventually watch all of TOS and TNG and at least give the other series' a chance.
 
I never saw that stuff either, because we were raised without TV.

Have seen a couple of the Trekkie movies, like the one with the whales. Otherwise, that whole cultural phenomenon passed me by.
 
DS9 is by far my favorite. I bought the seasons of it as they came out and cost $110 a piece. TNG was good but not as good as DS9. Voyager was good at times, but was typically crap. Enterprise was probably my second favorite although still not as good as DS9. TOS is probably my least favorite although i sill catch an episode every now and then as its the only one we get on the basic cable we have. Luckily i have every star trek episode on my comp with the exception of my DS9 dvds.

Windom (commodore Deker) puts in a great performance........They say there's no Devil

I dunno why everyone hated enterprise. Personally, I thought the 3rd and 4th seasons were awesome, especially the through the looking glass pair of episodes. The finale was trash though. I wish they made more. That said, even today it's fun to watch TOS, but TNG was probably the best series.

Right ... THIS is the correct title of the episode I mistakenly referred to as the "Planet-Killer" written by Harlan Ellison in my earlier post! 😱

I didn't get to see the re-mastered version Saturday & was totally bummed out... its supposedly on again in like 6 months though.
 
I think TOS is far superior to TNG, but it's hard to quantify. Anybody who likes TOS already knows why, and anybody who doesn't yet, well, dissecting it could ruin the experience. TOS was certainly far more revolutionary than any Star Trek after it. If you didn't live back then (I wasn't alive yet), you just can't understand how big a step forward it was from what was on TV at the time.

TNG is a bunch of technobabble and flat acting IMHO. The characters almost always act the exact same way, no matter what the situation is. There's no real interaction, no synthesis. It often feels to me like it was done by an AI rather than real people. I don't bother with the later series at all...what little I have seen has done nothing to interest me.

As for the movies, I think Star Trek 2, 3, and 4 hang comfortably with any other trilogy of movies ever made. 1, 5, Generations, and First Contact were hit-and-miss. The rest (yes, including 6) I consider quite poor and visionless. The casting of 6 was an insult.

As for what other people think of you- whether you think you're a Trekkie or a Trekker, whether you prefer Picard or Kirk, whether your friends would make fun of you or not- I personally wouldn't be concerned. People should be able to handle other people liking or disliking spaceship shows.
 
I caught an episode of Enterprise and it had this hot ass Vulcan. Thats about all my experience with Star Trek.

This episode was nonimated for a Hugo award in 1967.
 
The original star trek owned. Deep Space Nine is my favorite series then would be next gen then voyager and enterprise about the same.

Like 6 movies too.

Try Babylon five too if you like space series it is pretty good and the movies that go with it and also Crusade which was an offshoot of Babylon five that was discontinued but worth watching and works in many characters from babylon five.

Also you can watch battlestar galactica, Scifi channel's dune mini series is excellent...
 
i didn't like DS9 so much. TNG was great. i also like Voyager and you have to see Seven of nine. 😛 stay away from enterprise. it sucked. bad.
