I finally watched Star Trek

So a few months ago there was a Star Trek Original Series marathon on TV land and I happened to channel surf to it. I had never seen a complete episode of any Star Trek series and I was bored, so I decided to watch. That was all it took. I'm now hooked on the original series after blowing through season 1 on DVD and season 2 is on its way.

Anyway, it's a really good show and they did a good job with the special effects considering when it was made. Sure, I laughed a few times at the special effects, but overall it shows that a good plot makes the show good, not the special effects.

So, I don't think I'm a Trekkie (and hopefully it stays that way), but what are some suggestions for new fans of Star Trek, other than the obvious "get a girlfriend"?

TNG is better, and if you just enjoy the show, and don't tell anyone about it you can be called a Trekker, just enjoy it and don't let anyone know that you watch it, thats what I do.

they've redone the effects on select episodes, it's pretty cool. it's on NBC in my area, los angeles. the doomsday machine was on this weekend, the new effects were good but still fit the style of the original show.

my suggestion is if you watch later series, don't judge them by the first season. Next Gen was really cheesy and I hated Deep Space 9. After that both really pick up.

There is nothing wrong with you and I support your endeavors. Star Trek taught the world to love green women, after all

I'm a diehard Trekkie and I think TOS was by far the worst... and yet, it is still better than any TV show made today (besides Battlestar Galactica.)

TNG and Enterprise are my favorite.. DS9 a close 3rd.. Voyager had its moments.

The original series episodes are pretty fun to watch now that they've been remastered and cleaned up. I liked TNG better, though.

I liked TNG and Voyager. DS9 moved way to slowly and was more like a soap opera at times. Enterprise was kind of stupid, about on par with DS9.

I'm pretty fond of all the series. There are quite a few things that never seem to make sense though, like why a captain of a starship always has to lead the most dangerous away mission of all time lol. Or why when a main character is in a shuttlcraft it can take a seemingly infinite amount of damage, but when other people are they get destroyed by one shot. The list goes on, I'll shut up now.

TOS was the best series, hands down, but TNG came in a close second.

DS9 was decent at times, but had too much soap opera crap in it. Voyager had a great premise, but it was poorly done, and gave too much focus on too few characters.

Enterprise was just utter trash, no saving graces whatsoever.

Of the original series the first two seasons are the best. You tell the third season by the blue title screens.

ST:TNG's first season was a rip-off the old series. There were some new stories, but it was not until season three before I really like it. By the final season I just wanted it to end.

ST: DS9 - the first few seasons were slow and it did not pick up until the war.

Voyager.

Enterprise. Bad first season, ok second, Good third, Good 4th.

I agree with this.

When watching TOS, it helps to remember that it was made 40 years ago. They really did an excellent job with the whole concept considering that at the time we had not even landed on the moon.

Babylon 5! 😛
Seriously though, TNG + DS9 are nice.

QFT B5 is an amazing series, too bad about Crusade...JMS is one hell of a writer.

TNG, Voyager and DS9 were good when Ronald Moore was around...I hope he gets BSG back on track.

IMO Berman and Brannon killed Trek.

I love ST, I still prefere to watch re-runs of TNG, DS9 and Voyager than most of the shows on TV now.

TNG is probably my favorite, as that is what I gre up with. DS9 was there too, but as some have already said, it didnt pick up until the war, which is when it became really good.
I actually enjoy voyager, first season, and part of the second wasnt too good, but after that I liked it.

As for TOS and Enterprise. Well, I started watching enterprise when it came out, but I didnt really stick with it. Its not bad, but it doesnt follow ST, there is a lot of stuff from other ST series that are contradicted in Enterprise. And, TOS, I watch episodes of it here and there, but Im not into it that much. Not saying it isnt good tho.

edit: forgot about the movies. Ive seen most of the original movies and liked them. Also liked most of the TNG movies.
