I finally had to give in to old age.

I had to give up and back off from 1280x1024 to 1024x768.
I got glasses a few months ago, but my eyes hurt constantly.
I changed first thing this morning and my eyes don't hurt yet.
Bonus.

60 right now. I can't deal with the "smishy" look at higher rates. My Samsung 712N only supports up to 75hz at this res, and it looks like crap.

Anything below 70 will hurt the eyes and brain. I would seriously consider getting an LCD or a better CRT monitor. You've only got 1 set of eyes.

I'm 38 years old, Skoorb.
I set my refresh rate to 75. Windows says my monitor won't support higher than that. I'll check the specs on my monitor...

I don't see how anyone can read anything higher than maybe 1280x1024. I have 20/10 vision, and I can't...not comfortably, anyway.
You folks running 1600x1200 on 19" monitors, how far away from the screen are you? 5 inches?
The only person I know personally that runs the resolution that high has his face right at the screen.

Ooooohhhh....you already have an LCD. Refresh rate is pretty much irrelevant on LCD's, that's not your problem. If you run a non native resolution ( 1024 x 768), instead of the native resolution of 1280 x 1024, you will lose image quality. Have you tried running 1280 x 1024 and adjusting windows font size?

I run 1600 x 1200 on this.

I agree 16 x 12 is a bit over the top on a 19" unless you adjust the font size..

Yes, I just did. Everything is small and the desktop looks pretty rough.
I'm at 1280x1024 75hz 120% font.

I just changed to 1152x864, 75hz, 100% fonts and it's not too bad. It's a bit fuzzy.
I can't remember where to enable cleartype...

I set up at 1280x1024 truecolor at 75 hz. (72 hz wasn't an option in list all modes)

How old are you? Your ability to view things nearby decreases with age, regardless of your prescription (20/10).
