Heh, there's a big distinction between these and anything you can get for your computer (as far as computers are concerned). It's seriously like going from black and white to a Wega...okay maybe not as drastic, but you get the idea.

I performed the first part of this modification. I think that the sound is improved. I like the 500s because they're circamural and have a lot of (admittedly unnatural) bass which I like for games and casual music listening. They also do fine without an amp.

Oh someday I'll probably pick up a pair of 580s or 600s, but that opens up the "audiophile" can of worms, that frankly, I can't afford right now.

I really love these Sony earbuds though. They need to be burned in for about 40 hours or so, but after that they sound simply amazing. Only $60 :)

I would recommend the forums at headwize.com (actually the whole site is excellent) for those seeking good info on the wide assortment of headphones out there.

<How much do those headphone tube amplifiers cost and where can one purchase them?>

headphone.com Doesnt carry the Musical Fidelity line anymore.

Audioadvisor.com is the authorized US distributor of the Musical Fidelity line. They can be had for $269.95 there.

Worth every penny. The sound out of it is so crisp and clear.
