I gave in. Earlier this week I bought a box of those "garden burger" soyburgers that my girlfriend keeps trying to tell me is so much healthier. I thought, 'eh why not, it says flame grilled taste. I don't know where to start with this thing. The smell as its cooking, defrosting, whatever in the microwave is just unusual and disturbing, but the taste....I don't know what it is, but its nothing like a hamburger I've ever had. Even the texture isn't good looking. How vegetarians do it I'll never know, I want teh real thing!

Gardenburgers aren't bad, but they are DEFINITELY nothing like meat. They have some interesting flavors, also.

If your GF insists on non-meat products, try Boca burgers. They look, feel and even somewhat taste like beef (I think mainly because they look and feel like ground meat). I like them quite a bit, and they are easy as hell to cook -- pop them in microwave, and they're done in two minutes or so. Add them to scrambled eggs, put them on a bun, eat them like a sausage patty.

I just bought some of their faux-chicken patties to see how those are. Jury is still out. 🙂

I dunno if I can try a boca burger now andrew, I've got 3 of these things left taht I presumably can't even feed to a dog 🙂 Its not teh g/f insisting I eat them, she loves a good steak just as much as me, its just it'd be healther. I think I'd rather die happy 😉 Some people like to smoke....some like to eat meat 😀

Who said anything about being a man? Why do all these people have confused notions of adul and I being men?
 
Whenever I cook these things for people they comment on how much better they taste when I cook them. I don't have the heart to tell them it is because I cooked it right along side of the 30% fat meat burgers that are spewing fat like a volcano.

i tried them once too, they taste nothing like real beef, actually they taste like decaying vegetables smached together.
