Just canceled my order for my VP171b (bastards at dell delayed it by a month). I could use the money, and I'll probably wait for OLED/12ms panels.

LCDs don't have a refresh rate. Therefore, your argument is moot.

How many lcd's can run a res of 2048x1536 and at what price??
If you don't get it then your
A. rich
B. clueless
C. both

Also my "old cheap 21" crt runs from 800x600 to 2048x1536 while still looking good no crt can claim that.

The single advantage I see for going with an LCD is the space savings. That is not an issue for me at home and I much prefer the picture of a good flatscreen CRT to that of an LCD.

my 19" crt diamondtron is really pretty... until a decent 17" samsung drops to 300$ ill just hold out

i would like to get my dad a 15" LCD, tho...his 17" CRT hurts my eye!

Sorry
Joined the LCD ranks on Black Friday. (19" Envision from Costco)

Im not sure if it was the right thing to do.
I may have to fork out for a good 20" CRT.

Over the past few years I have purchased a lot of hardware, done a lot of upgrades.

The day I went from a 19" CRT to a planar PX191 19" LCD will forever feel like my first "Real" computer upgrade.

1 Dell M992 19" flat CRT and 1 17" Gateway Vivitron 1776 that is about 10 years old 🙂

No LCDs for me in the near future barring me winning the lottery.

On a 17"crt right now...but at school I have my 19" Dell 1901fp and she's a beauty

(if I had the money, I'd never leave without her)

My point exactly.

I'll happily plug away on my 19 and 17 inch crt's until I realize that I can sell them and replace them with LCD's for about the same price.

Also, keep in mind for the screen sizes, on a 19 inch crt, usually they advertise as a usable screen size of 18 inch. On a 19 inch LCD, the usable screen size is 19 inches.

From a non-technical, non-quantative standpoint, there's something about the LCD that just makes it so much better than a CRT. Better to the point where once you switch from CRT to LCD, you can't really go back, and its this sorta thing that people who don't have LCD's won't understand. After owning two MAG LCD's (15'' and 17''), whenever I go back to a friend's CRT, there's just this lack of smoothness and finesse by which the LCD displays the picture- a constant smooth transition of pixel rather than a cathode ray tube scanning at insane rates that just makes it so much easier on the eyes and the mind.

Using a 17" crt right now. LCD's are much easier on the eyes which is important to me because of how many hours I sit at a computer.

I havent yet.... Using a 35" Sony Trinitron TV as my monitor for the time being.... Once we move and have room for a desk, i'll be picking up dual 19" Samsung LCD's.

Even if LCD prices were cut down to 1/3 where they are now, CRT would still be the better choice.
It really is no contest.

Still on CRT here everywhere, work, home, school... Don't even really like LCDs, but then again I've never used one for more than a few seconds...

Still suing 17" CRT's at home and at the office...

The picture just isn't crisp enough for me to switch over... not at the price difference anyways..

Exactly!

If all you can afford is staring into a lightbulb, OK, but don't claim it's better....

i stare at a 20" LCD at work & a 19" CRT at home.

the LCD output quality doesn't seem any better, IMHO.

without question it isn't worth the extra money (& yes i could afford one).

Granted they are beautiful, sharp, nice on the eyes... But am I the only one that hasn't gone to LCD? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to, but c'mon $450 for a DVI 17", I can't do that. I was lucky to swing $165 for my 21" crt.

Anyone else have LCD envy?

to me LCD's are harder on my eyes... I've had opportunity to go to LCD, even was stuck with one for about a month, and I went back to CRT I was happier than ever.... ESPECIALLY for FPS gaming
