I feel Bad :(

Ausm

Lifer
I moved just outside of town in a semi-rural area after my Divorce 2 years ago. I was lonely decided it would be nice to have a pet.

So my sister-in-law to me to a farm where they got their cat from and there must have been 10 cats and about 50 kittens running around in the barn.

Then this little black and white kitten came up to me and I picked him up and he was puuuurrrring 😉 He was very friendly so I took him home. I took him to the vet right away. The poor kitty was full of ear mites and had a terrible cold 🙁

He got all his shots and now had a clean bill of health. He always wanted to go outside because there are corn fields which surround my subdivision.I put in a cat door for him and he loved it!

I spoiled him rotten but he was an excellent companion.

For 2.5 years he went ouside and did his thing. The longest he was ever gone was 2 days which I thought was normal because both my stepmother and my grandmother had cats that were both inside and outside cats.

They sid it was normal for them to take off for a couple of days.

Well here is the problem my cat has been gone for 5 days and quite frankly I am getting very worried 🙁 I searched all around where I live to see if he got hit by a car but luckily I don't think that happened.

I am going to check the local pound tonight to see if he is there.

I think some asshole stoled him 🙁

Has you cats every strayed off for extended periods of time and came back?

Wow, thats a weird story.....bleeding from the nose? Aliens?

EDIT: Sorry to hear about yer cat Ausm......

I had a cat that every now and then would leave for one to two weeks. I think she did this twice during her whole life. She always came back home just fine.

I hope your cat makes it back ok.

Sorry to hear that 🙁

I had a similar situation with my cat a few years ago. He used to often disappear for a couple of days then come back, but this time, 2 days became 3, became 5, became a week, became 2 weeks (starting to think that something's happened now), becomes 3 weeks (almost starting to give up hope), becomes 4 weeks (have completely given up now)

About a month after we last saw him, he come in through the cat flap, meowing away "Hey, I'm back! What's for dinner!?"

All that was wrong with him was he'd been covered in those little "sticky balls" and a few bites.

That was ~5 years ago, and he's been fine ever since. Most he's gone for since then has been about 3 days.

Confused

Gibson: sounds like your cat was hit by a car. You'd think there would be more injury when that happens, but believe me, after having 12+ cats in my life, I've learned, often they look fine but they have internal hemmorhaging.

I've had my cat run away for 3 or 4 days before, and when he came back he was quite sick. Still, after we took him to the vet, he was ok. Apparently he ate a rotten mouse or something and was so sick he couldn't move for a few days.

Sounds like he OD'ed on coke.

have you gone out calling his name and such, one of our cats went missing for a while once, and finally came back without his collar on, it was one of thoes break away ones so we figured that he got suck someplace and had to break free, how rural is your area? you shoudl check and see if there are reports of any fishers around, because they eat cats, nasty fuskers they are

That explains alot. Sad thing was, at the time, I had a rabbit and another cat. AFter it died, My other cat and rabbit would not eat for days. My other cat got so skinney after and did not eat agin till after a week. Poor thing is so lonely now b/c everyone is so busy. I wanna get another cay to accompany him....

I've got one cat - Max - who will come inside only when it's really cold or raining/snowing hard. If we try to keep her in otherwise, she won't eat and sits there all depressed.

Another of our flock (we have 13 cats and 2 dogs) doesn't get out much this time of year as the color of her coat doesn't really scream "HEY!!! I'm NOT a squirrel/deer/turkey/*insert whatever animal is in season here*!!" When she does get out though, she'll run off for a couple of days most of the time but it's not uncommon for her to be gone for 2 weeks.

I figure your kitty is out exploring or socializing and is likely just fine. If you have a place outside to leave some of his favorite dry cat food (we use the top of a low wall), that might be something to think about. You might just catching him grabbing a bite and at least gain some peace of mind.

I blew coffee all over my employer's monitor because of you!

Cheers!

I grew up with plenty of animals and we've had cats disappear like that and come back and other times we never saw them again. Who knows what they can get into.

I can't get rid of my cat if I tried! she is a good cat tho, catches all the RATS, keeps em off my property. She is mostly outdoor but she makes a living in my garage and sometimes comes in to say hello. If you had your cat for at least a year chances are he/she isn't going to just up and run away. Just put some food outside and eventually you will see it come around.

That is if something hasn't happened to it already.

keep checking those roadways and I hope you dont find it out there on the side of the road. Also, after about a week or so (maybe longer if you live in wet weather) pay attention to any bad smells out and around your property. I found a cat that way too 🙁

I had a cat that would take time away from everone once in a while, it's not too odd. She would normaly stay out a day or two at a time, but would go for weeks other times...

Thx to all who replied! I will try putting food out side and keeping my eyes/nose open (Hopefully I won't find him dead 🙁 )

No, because I don't let my cats out.

I hope at least you spayed/neuter them if you do...

Lifespan for outdoor cat is 3-5yrs. For indoor cat 15+ years.

Why do people make crap up like this ?

Where did you get your info from ?

All of the cats I have owned in the past 40 years (actually they owned me 😉 )have lived outside and only one of them died before the age of six, about thirteen cats total.

I am constantly trying to understand how they could love a pet that leaves them for days and couldn't give a $#!T about their owners... that's why dogs are the shiznit, not cats. 😉
