Sounds like Kennedy's "The only thing we need to fear is fear itself".

Times have been bleaker in the past, yet America has triumphed. There is something peculiar to the American psyche that helps our nation overcome almost any adversary. Given the intense and incomparable trauma the nation has suffered over the last 36 hours, it is natural to have feelings of despair, fear and hopelessness. Time will heal some emotional damage, gradually, and so will the common bonds that Americans share: the belief that our nation is special, and is almost ordained by some strange, unseen force to prevail because our way of life is sacred and righteous.

I've been feeling very uneasy ever since the attacks. Just a weird sense of dread. I still haven't really accepted what is happening. All those images of the attack seem so unreal -- like something from a Hollywood movie. It just doesn't seem real. And I had trouble sleeping last night because a lot of those images were haunting and disturbing...

if you guys keep thinking bad things will happen they will,

its sort of like the depression, people kept beleiving it was going to happen and it did. instead of trying to prevent it they litteraly caused it.

I think your first post, iamawiz, was pretty well done. I do believe, however, that you are overplaying the economic implications of this. European markets handled it surprisingly well today and I think the US markets will as well after a short while of catastrophic drops (don't sell, just hold on...).

You're right on some points. Many people will never feel the same. The US's sense of invulnerability has been injured, but for the most part the country will go on and you really don't need to worry so much.

I think the more vocal minority on this board thinks the arab nations should be annialated but the less dick-thinking among us knows this won't happen because its stupid and, like you said, makes such people no better than the perpetrators.

Don't forget: The world is united on this. The party or group responsible for this is on its own. The world condemns it as one. Nuclear destruction, which you said you're mostly scared of (yeah me too, it sucks ass), can only really happen between two strong nations and whoever was responsible for this at most is a nation like afghanistan. They are not a nuclear power and like I said the rest of the world will stand by the US. I don't think you need to worry. Its horrible but it could have been much worse.

Everything will be okay... we all have to continue on with life... I'm a Canadian but tomorrow at work we plan on placing a small US flag somewhere in our store..

sh!t... this all hits so hard

a mattress shop owner down the street is pakistani (forgive me if they're called something else)... we are a competing mattress store... people were coming into our store saying such afwul things like "that f-ing ____ from the store down the street, i wont buy anything from him"

it hurts me to hear such things, i feel bad for them, as i know them, and its not like they are bad people...

i fear that a lot of innocent arab's are going to feel quite a bit of opression over this :(

I think that in the end, this event will unite the US and it's people.

Americans have long lived in a big shell, but now that shell is broken and we can see what it's like in places like Israel where terrorist attacks are commonplace, and we will realize who our real enemies are and what needs to be done.

This quote sums it up for me I guess-

<< "Oh, Jeff, I don't want to die!" >>

<< Neither do I, baby, but if I have to I'm going to be the one who dies last. >>

Robert Mitchums character in Out of the Past (1947)

To triumph over evil, you must be good. Are we good?

I don't know what to expect, what to think, I can't even give my opinion on this!
I want to go on with my life, but can that happen?

We're all going to pull through this. We're closer and more unified as a country. While true, the economy and things overall will never be the same, we'll get through it.
