Why is my sys unstable?
If I run DDR at 266 sys becomes unstable
underclock to 200 becomes stable.
Already returned the ram for exchange
Already swaped out the Board
C'mon guys I am Realy stumped on this one
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
 
my gut response is you got crappy ram, my personal experience when stuff crashes and fiddling with anything that effects the memory timing (cas, fsb, etc.) fixes it then the memory is the most likely suspect. Did you exchange the potentially crappy ram for the same brand/chips of potentially crappy ram? I've bought 60 sticks at a time where the entire batch while rated at cas2 only runs stably at cas3 for certain software programs -> i.e. aggresively timed and marginal memory.
 
Are all the latest drivers installed (especially 4-in-1's)? Make sure thats done, and flash the latest BIOS as well.
 
just because crucial may be statistically better than other brands DOES NOT mean that there are no bad sticks. swap out the ram. and make sure you aren't running cas3 memory at cas2 (that could cause 266mhz ram to be unstable at 266mhz since it would still be running out of spec)
 
I know it's not a very good card , I'm not very impressed with it.
But I already swapped it out with another vid card to no avail.

Did you try updating the bios?
Are you sure the mb is supplying the correct voltages to your cpu and memory?
Did you look at the cpu core to check that it is the mhz speed you purchased, possibly the retailer sold you the wrong one.
Also, why havent you installed the via 4in1 drivers?


Its highly unlikely that the cpu and memory wont run at default speed seeing as they are all high quality. Have you tried another cpu?
 
I have installed my VIA drivers.
I have not swapped out the CPU but I did have it tested in another mobo, it ran fine i think
 
if you havent already update the bios, it seems their were some boot issues with the release bios and from what i have read this my have something to do with the bios incorrectly detecting the proccesor and assigning improper multiplier's and voltage.

That is the release bios dude. Typically release bio's have numerous problems, not ALL of which they put in the bios update descriptions. Whether or not it says the problem is with 'durons' or not it still is a boot problem which happens to be the SAME problem you are describing. Update the bios, it could help......

Edit: It isnt the release bios, but the first revision.
 
Have you tried pulling all the other cards out? What about swapping powersupplies?

Also what memory timings are you using? Not sure the options available on that board.

Have you tried Memtest to see if the problem is being caused by memory. If you can pass Memtest, you could forever put the idea that it is memory out of the equation.
 
I see a few possible problems.

First of all, check the voltages on your Enermax. They're notorious for low +5v readings on many boards. Might need a different PS.

Second, don't discount BIOS updates. It is entirely possible that a newer BIOS could fix all your headaches. Or create more. 🙂

Lastly, but certainly not least ... you are stuck with a VIA-chipset mainboard. Make sure you have the latest 4-in-1 driver package installed, as well as the various latency patches and the like to improve your PCI and IDE subsystem performance. Disregard those who insist they aren't necessary ... they absolutely are.
 
Have you gone the full mile and exchanged (borrowed a friend's) processor's? And the one I always feel guilty about suggesting, but have you built it completely outside the case?
