circut16: Go ahead and try the bios, just go slow and you have nothing to worry about :D Its like loading drivers. Just make a bootable floppy, and start flashing, cant hurt.

what are your memory timings at? i would suggest messing with those

any difference between CAS 2 & 2.5

there is also an Athlon AGP fix for 2k/XP

ACPI can also cause a lot of major headaches

and also make sure you do not have any cards in PCI slot 1

i think i had to do all of that to get my epox 8kha+ stable

but now i have a northwood and am luvin it

Another vote for powersupply.
Your PSU may be doing +5 volts as you say, but if you take a look on the sticker you will see that the PSU is rated less than 2amps on the +5 volt.
A lot of mobo's are having probs with this. I read on a newsgroup a while ago an Asus tech recommending not to use a PSU with no less than 2 amps on the 5volt rail FWIW.
Have you tried a PSU that is rated as above 2 amp on the +5 volt rail? Preferably non Enermax ;)
Im getting kinda tired of seeing people recommend Enermax PSU's when they have this defficiency. Its about time Enermax were forced to get their act together on this IMO :(

Are you sure that setting FSB to 266MHz doesn't raise the PCI (33MHz) and AGP (66MHz) clocks out-of-spec? If for some reason or another the BIOS doesn't change the dividers as you up the clock, the system would be extremely unstable.
