I don't feel strongly about Sony either way, but I see that 90% of the Anandtech community does not like Sony, so I was surprised nobody linked this. I thought I'd throw the article out there!

To make it even lamer its a Maddox rant.
 
Decidedly "meh" to use current netspeak. If Sony is enforcing their market sales structure, I am not surprised. I would be surprised if other manufacturers didn't do the same thing to very organized outfits which resold merchandise in this way, but in the very least, very very few manufacturers honor warranties for "grey market" goods like is described. Buying scuba gear online from a discounter? No warranty for you in all likelihood! Ditto for camera gear that is "imported".

I'm not saying Sony hasn't done some seriously boneheaded things (the rootkit debacle is pretty amazing), but this really doesn't strike me as all that shocking.
 
I'm going to come right out and say it. Maddox's book sucked. It just wasn't that funny and it wasn't really his style I'm used to.

Also, his articles have been going downhill.
 
i am not anti-sony, sure they screw up a lot but they also do certain things right and continue to push innovation. Many believe Samsung is the new Sony and that may be true, for now, but i do not purposely go out of my way to avoid Sony products.
the article is a horrible one. I could have appreciated its message if it was intelligently written, provided more examples with details, and didn't call sony names every 2 sentences like my 11 year old cousin does when he gets angry
 
Sony expects to lose $1.7 billion dollars in their gaming division by March. That means that I and anyone else who makes any money at all between now and March (or at least manages not to lose more than $1,699,999,999.99) will officially make more money than Sony's gaming division. I rule.

JeeZus, what a whiny, crybaby rant that was.Nasty old Sony took a company to court to enforce their marketing agreement with them...Whaaaaa...

Personaly, I've had good to excellent customer service from Sony over the years, and while their products may not all be the absolute best you can buy, it's generally far above what is average in it's category. I've NEVER had any complaint about the way they dealt with warranty or other customer service issues. I guess I'm something of a minor "fanboi", because they've always stood by their products.
I can't think of a single corporation who NEVER does things ( that we consumers might hate), to further their bottom line...
 
Sony warranties truly suck. For example, its 90 days for a digital camera. Thats BS IMHO. Slowly but surely I will wean off their Sony products well maybe damn it i am going to really really try.

I liked it, but then I'm biased as I loathe Sony and generally like Maddox's rants. 'If you disagree, you are wrong.'
