With four sticks you would have to run 2T, but 1GB sticks have looser timings. I am not sure on what would be faster, but I would go with 2x1GB so there are no complications.

you would have to run the 4 x 512 sticks really fast to make up for the 2T. like 300 fsb, assuming that your 2 x 1gb sticks overclock a little (around 220)

Get 2x1gb sticks. You dont need to worry about T2 or bad timings as much as you think. Most DDR makers have the same timings in 512mb as 1gb versions.

The only problem with the 1GB sticks is that there so expensive. I've seen some with so-so timings that cost more then my entire system!!

I just picked up the Patriot sticks from Monarch for $226 shipped and with no tweaking they'll do 255MHz@ 2.5-3-3-6. Not too shabby for 1GB sticks. I'd say go for the 2x1GB sticks vs. the 4x512MB. You can get the low latency Patriot ram for less than you could four 512MB sticks of low latency ram.

Those aren't the LL sticks are they?

I had those and they wouldnt even run stable at 200mhz 2-3-2-7. But they did fine at 217mhz 2.5-3-3-7. Max OC for mine were about 220mhz 2.5-3-3-7.

You must be one lucky guy.
