I don't get people who say stuff like this.

I was discussing a car purchase with a person and the price I paid came up.

He goes, you paid the same as me for my car. I'm like okay, nice. He then goes on to say that my car is 4 years old and that his is new with a smirk.

That is true but I don't see how that pertains to anything. The entire rest of the conversation I could not help but think... okay you paid for an entry level sub compact with no known reputation (yet) and you're comparing it to my fully loaded touring sedan?

I can see the merits of wanting a new car for some people (Not for me since I can work cars and know how to maintain them) but be realistic, all anyone can say is that they were the same value at a certain time frame simply because one was newer.

People really need to figure valid points of comparisons.

Some people just have a need to feel superior.

"You spend $150 a week on groceries? I got this bag of kibble for $12 and it lasts me all week! Lrn2finance!"

Just ask him how much his car will be worth in 3 years. Now compare it to what yours will be. He even looks like a bigger idiot.

So, I take it you're trying to compete with Zeze for worst thread featuring bonkers ass (but not spaceman level bonkers) text?

Fixed. I had a good chuckle at that omission when reading it this morning. Back to serious though.

It seems like he was focused on one thing.. New as opposed to higher quality or fun factor or image.

I think if you say "car" 3 or more times in a post it has to go in The Garage.

Honestly... Do you really care? Let him be insecure and just go about your way knowing you got what YOU wanted.

People who do this like to justify their purchase.
They went through the same debate during their purchase and they chose their path.
When they see that you chose another path, they like to explain why their choice was better.

same reason you were telling him about your purchase in the first place.

I try to avoid telling people details about anything that might be construed as bragging, requiring their need to one-up, unless they're really digging for it.

my friend does shit like that. when we went to vegas he was telling me how little he paid to stay at his hotel compared to what i paid at my hotel, as if he was special for getting some kind of deal.

he stayed at the flamingo and i stayed at the cosmopolitan with a balcony overlooking the strip.

if i wanted to stay at a shitty hotel with trashy guests, then i would have stayed at the flamingo too. but i didn't, i wanted a nice upscale hotel and i paid for it.

he does that with a lot of stuff, and i'm like that is great. but i don't want to pay less for shittier quality things, i want to pay more for quality stuff.

When I bought my 2004 mach 1 for 16k everyone asked why I didnt get something new instead. Well my car only had 14k miles on it and I got it with a supercharger/ upgraded clutch/ upgraded suspension. So much more for the money IMO. No reason for me to buy a newer mustang I'd have to drop 5k in to get it to what I want.

I think if you say "car" 3 or more times in a day it means you're a wise and beautiful woman.
Fixed.

If the guy bought an Asian car, call it a Chinese car. That'll piss him off.

Personally I love people like this.

If you show me stupidity early, there is less work for me to do in order to figure it out myself.

How many people have you gotten to know well etc and they seemed great.....then turned into complete douche bags?

Thanks for saving me the trouble!!!

You should have said what you were thinking. It is not healthy to ruminate on things. It's your brain attempting to cope with the situation, but the fruits of your rumination will not give you any satisfaction. You'll just be filled with regret.
