There were things I would change about it, but it was very entertaining. I feel sorry for some of you, I'd hate to go through life with expectations so high you're never happy.

I don't hate it I just didn't see anything great about it. Maybe there's some nostalgia value if you watched the cartoons back in the day but otherwise... no, not really.

Well, I didn't hate Transformers at all. I absolutely loved it. It was gun and explosion porn! Oh, and to up the ante, Megan Fox was in it. :p

It was everything I expected, and so much more. I knew going into it, that it was by a guy who made great action movies, had a storyline that revolved around a toy/comic/cartoon storyline, and would include lots of action, guns, and explosions, and involved accurately portrayed military involvement. For what it was, it had a believable plot, and again, lots and lots of action involving large metal creatures and the military.
I had, and still have, nothing to complain about. And I drool when thinking about the sequel still set to release next summer. :)

+

Believable plot? The whole script/plot felt like it was made by a bunch of highschoolers doing a classroom project - al the way down to how they thought it was nifty to make some teenage chick be the leading expert to investigate the government's most top secret and sensitive data.
Then they thought it was nifty to make a fat black dork playing DDR and living in grandma's house to be the world's greatest hacker.
Interrogating a fat black hacker dude with doughnuts.. um yes, very believable there.

It doesn't take a snobbish elitist film critic to find this flick over the top cheesy.

okay, believable might be a stretch. I wasn't looking at the minor details, but more or less the overall response to something like giant robots landing on earth and fighting a war.
but yes, the details surrounding the hackers, well take it however you want. I didn't hate that part of the plot, but it fit provided it was a summer action movie that wanted to have a little over-the-top cheese in it. Because well, if your making a Transformers movie, if there is no cheese, someone screwed up somewhere. :p

Already?

yep, was greenlit by Paramount at the time the movie was hitting theaters.

considering Iron Man 2 is scheduled for May, 2010, 2 years after this years release, and many other movies have done the same kind of schedule, it's perfectly realistic. They've already stated the movie is in pre-production.

the monolouges in the movie were terrible.

Whenever Prime and Megatron were fighting they were having cheesy back-and-forth: "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings!" "Your weakness will be your doom!" and so forth.

Terrible. Cut that crap out and it was a really fun action film.

a lot of lines were actually similar to the same to lines used throughout the original Transformers story. It's based around the idea of giant robots fighting each other.
Do you want a script with lines that rival Oscar-worthy films? :p

btw, I'm not really defending this movie. I could care less if people liked it. Because ultimately, people have the same general opinion about most of Michael Bay's movies. I like them for what they are, simple action movies with fun plots. I love Oscar-worthy movies too, and am more critical of those. But I don't want to force myself to be overly critical of every movie, especially for movies that were made with one purpose in mind: entertain through explosions, violence, sex and death.
Snobs who look for more in movies obviously made with the latter ideals, are destined to be disappointed. I have no sympathy for them, and am saddened that their movie life is so bleak. I'm not a critic, and don't pretend to be. I watch movies to be entertained. It's not my job to pick them apart and cite every possible flaw. I would not be entertained, and would have wasted my time. I am not being paid to watch movies, so why waste my time picking them apart? Walking away with a smile on my face from the excitement and entertainment sounds like a much better time. ;)

Some people take movies way too seriously. You either love it and get caught up in the action/adrenaline or you try to analyze it intellectually and start complaining about how shallow/cheesy it is.

Same story with Snakes on a Plane. I watched it with my friends. Half of us went with the flow and enjoyed the move immensely. The other half just sat there cutting it up/criticizing it and thought it was a horrible movie. Personally, I prefer turning my intelligence down for a couple of hours and going with the flow for the sake of having a kickass time.

And Transformers is the only movie where you can see two Warthogs and an AC-130 Specter Gunship beat the living shit out of a giant robot. How can you top that? :D

No plot
The Transformers were secondary to the two teenagers in the movie
No action - a little in the beginning and end but that's it
Bad acting
Not funny

Waste of a Netflix rental

damn straight. Those were some of my favorite scenes, and were very powerful to me. Watching the A-10s, and then the AC-130, all in the same scene essentially... left me speechless and in a very enjoyable state of shock. So much so, that even after 4 views in theaters (free :p pays to work at one), I still am floored by that desert scene. :D

And yep, completely agree about Snakes on a Plane. What's actually comical about that movie, is it was made to be that way. It was a AAA movie, made to imitate a B movie. The entire delivery was genius in my opinion. It was one big joke as far as I'm concerned. Hell, the movie poster hanging on my wall testifies to that notion. The title 'Snakes on a Plane'... dumb, or genius imitating dumb? And the tagline, "Sit back. Relax. Enjoy the fright." Makes me :laugh:OL.
Another movie in that same vain, that was just made perfectly for what it was supposed to be, is Shoot 'Em Up. Identical in terms of imitating the imitator, dressing up like a B-movie. The title, the sheer number of references.
The critics, to me, were backwards. Well, some of the more smart ones actually got the whole point, and noticed how perfect it was.
The title. The name 'Mr. Smith'. The over-the-top action, stunts, and camera angles. The plot itself, and many scenes. Basically one big mock movie with golden references.
I still need to buy that. Not to forget the fact that it was gun porn at its finest. :D

Seriously. I think the director was thinking of changing the name to "Pacific Flight 142" or something, and SLJ refused to be in it unless they kept it at "Snakes on a Plane". :D

I thought it was a fun action movie. I didn't care about plot development, I didn't care about cheese factor, it had a fair amount of humor, a gorgeous girl, and some good explosions and car chases.

Does every movie have to be the greatest movie ever made to enjoy it?

No, but not all people find a movie with a lot of cheese, really poor acting, over the top lines and a fat black l337 hacker guy screaming, I.. I NEED A SCREEWWWDRIVER!!. Anyone who screams a line like that in exuberance looks utterly retarded.
Yes, it was indeed funny - in how ridiculous the lines were and the movie was put together.

Transformers was a movie made for 10 year olds as far as I can tell. No one my age (21) and certainly no adults would consider that movie anything but a kids movie unless they are really
really into the comic books and old cartoons still.

Ironman has a really stupid premise too but they pulled that off without stupid crap like "humans have a right to decide for themselves!!!"

come on, give me a break with that writing. oh and "you're a soldier now!!!" lol...

Do you know anyone your age?

Frankly I'm surprised that females gave it a higher rating than males.

The people that thoroughly enjoyed Transformers probably enjoyed Idiocracy as well .

In all seriousness, I would have ZERO problem with this film if they did not call it Transformers. Call it "Robots on Earth", "Machines", or whatever BS name you want but do not call it Transformers because that is a joke and an insult.

I don't hate the movie, but I don't like it either, except for the 4 or 5 minutes of action (out of a total running time of 2+ hours). Why?

1. Michael Bay wasn't a fan of Transformers...we obviously found out the hard way after watching his adaptation. Good job letting down the fanbase which mainly consists of the older generation. Hence why I said name the film ANYTHING but Transformers.

2. Old, worn-out, lame-ass, juvenile jokes throughout the entire movie...Bumblepee pissing on someone? Oh WOW, how original. Do people truly find that hilarious? Hmmm maybe we should have the Hulk piss on someone too because it's so damn innovative. And what about all the sex jokes i.e. the masturbation reference? Were they really necessary? Are we watching American Pie here? Does this film want to be an action film or a comedy? The trailer definitely marketed it as an action film but the actual film proves otherwise...

3. Some poor character selection...black hacker dude was mentioned before but what annoyed me most was the Sector 7 smartass...I was hoping he'd die because he was just so damn useless dragging the movie down.

4. Too little action and the time we actually saw some action, it was shown either too far away or too close making it very difficulty to see what was really going on. IMO the best parts were the slow-mo scenes but even then they were only for 1-2 seconds.

5. Crappy plot and too much filler. Nice waste of 15 minutes in the retarded scene where they were trying to find his glasses. Apart from the Sector 7 subplot, this was my most hated scene. Absolutely worthless and meaningless.

6. Crappy ending between Optimus/Megatron.

Agree with me or not, I'm sure Batman and Spiderman would get negative reviews too if they included all the BS Transformers did.

Fortunately, Batman has an awesome director, actors and writers.

The Spiderman trilogy is a festering pile of shit as it has none of the above.

I loved it. I didn't go in expecting much (see: Bay) but I was pleasantly surprised. Some of the plot was thin at best but I thought the movie was I thought it would be. CGI Action scenes with an average plot. I own the movie, have watched it many times and I enjoy every time.

People can B about how bad it is all they want, but it raked in 319.22 Million in box officer sales. That makes it #19 over all. A lot of times I think people just complain to hear their own selves talk. Hippies.

That's b/c people are suckers. With the name Transformers, it was going to make money no matter what. Too bad, the movie should have been named American Pie 5 with Special Guest - The Transformers.

The commercials marketing the movie showed an action cgi movie, not a movie about teenage love.

If you were a fan of the original cartoon series, comic book or the original movie, this adaption was a total insult.
