I don't get all the hate for Transformers: The Movie

I'm speaking of the 2007 movie, not the animated thing from the 80s. This is a movie about 30 foot tall robots who each posses more firepower than aircraft carrier. Now when creating a story about such characters, wouldn't you go in EXPECTING a cheesy popcorn flick? Did the critics honestly expect social commentary on robot war or something? The movie is about robots with freakin' giant guns for pete's sake! Explosions and bad jokes seem to fit.

So why did you hate Transformers?

Because even stupid random action movies had more of a plot than it did? If Rambo can have a plot, it should be able. Seriously, smashing your printer and setting it on fire would be more entertaining.

Well, I didn't hate Transformers at all. I absolutely loved it. It was gun and explosion porn! Oh, and to up the ante, Megan Fox was in it. :p

It was everything I expected, and so much more. I knew going into it, that it was by a guy who made great action movies, had a storyline that revolved around a toy/comic/cartoon storyline, and would include lots of action, guns, and explosions, and involved accurately portrayed military involvement. For what it was, it had a believable plot, and again, lots and lots of action involving large metal creatures and the military.
I had, and still have, nothing to complain about. And I drool when thinking about the sequel still set to release next summer. :)

Good Robots and Evil Robots battle to take control of the 'holy grail' of their world. Not a good plot, but serviceable to things blowing up. In my mind the WORST thing it could have do is to shoe horn in some morality tale and become preachy and boring *cough*Spiderman 3*cough*.

I heard it was a amazing but never saw it till the day after I saw Ironman, so maybe it didnt get a fair cut for me. I thought ironman was great, with the jokes being well done at the right times.

Transformers was a movie made for 10 year olds as far as I can tell. No one my age (21) and certainly no adults would consider that movie anything but a kids movie unless they are really
really into the comic books and old cartoons still.

Ironman has a really stupid premise too but they pulled that off without stupid crap like "humans have a right to decide for themselves!!!"

come on, give me a break with that writing. oh and "you're a soldier now!!!" lol...

Hated it. Focused too much on the kid and girl. Very little action and stupid plot.

The old animated Transformers: The Movie was ten times better.

Is it too much to ask for a coherent plot to go with all the CGI action? Maybe lose the scenes where a transformer urinates on John Turturro or the transformers "hide" in Shia's backyard. As Iron Man proved, it's possible to have a movie with both a strong plot AND impressive CGI effects. Transformers can be edited down to an incredible 30-minute CGI demo, but as a movie - it absolutely sucks.

From South Park's Imaginationland:

General: Can you think of any ideas of how to defeat the terrorists?

[Bay describes several action scenes with massive explosions]

General: Those aren't ideas, those are special effects.

Bay: I don't understand the difference.

General: I know you don't.

the monolouges in the movie were terrible.

Whenever Prime and Megatron were fighting they were having cheesy back-and-forth: "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings!" "Your weakness will be your doom!" and so forth.

Terrible. Cut that crap out and it was a really fun action film.

The only thing I didnt like was the typical cheesy hollywood moments... They need to get rid of those asap

Such as when Shia and Megan are lying down and they reach for each others hand in slo mo... Holy crap that was bad, stuff like that makes me feel embarrassed for everyone else watching

No lasting wow-factor. I saw the movie a few months ago and now remember very little of it. Lots bells and whistles in the climax but very little of it was memorable.

Robots needed more personality.

1. Crappy comedy moments, viz Transformers hiding outside a house
2. Megan Fox = ultimate fail
3. Human characters were paper thin and abysmal
4. Plot could have been written on the back of a stamp

Believable plot? The whole script/plot felt like it was made by a bunch of highschoolers doing a classroom project - al the way down to how they thought it was nifty to make some teenage chick be the leading expert to investigate the government's most top secret and sensitive data.
Then they thought it was nifty to make a fat black dork playing DDR and living in grandma's house to be the world's greatest hacker.
Interrogating a fat black hacker dude with doughnuts.. um yes, very believable there.

It doesn't take a snobbish elitist film critic to find this flick over the top cheesy.

Iron Man proves that you can have a blockbuster while still keeping the dialogue funny and witty

I'm 40, and I'd never seen a minute of the original Transformers series. I knew the commercials ("Transformers, more than meets the eye...") but that's it.

I thought it was a fun action movie. I didn't care about plot development, I didn't care about cheese factor, it had a fair amount of humor, a gorgeous girl, and some good explosions and car chases.

Does every movie have to be the greatest movie ever made to enjoy it?
