Your calling me a troll? I just came on here asking for help and advice on what my options might be. I don't know about anyone else, but as far as me I didn't refuse to sign out of some fear to fight, I honestly wasn't told about it. My School told me nothing, they didn't register me at all. Okay, I can take a hint, no adults on this website that can be nice and mature enough to point me in the right direction, so I won't waste my time and anyone elses time here. For those of you that think I'm a troll or whatever you call those types of people next time don't ever be quick to judge having not see the person. God bless.

I think we can all agree, you're not very observant. Go to your local Post Office and register. Done and done.

Let's see... information about selective service is mentioned on drivers license forms; all of the DMV offices I've been in have posters. Never got a driver's license?

Both of my sons received letters around the time of their 18th birthdays reminding them of the requirement.

I don't know if there's a right direction at this point - you violated the requirements. Ignorance isn't an excuse, and it's pretty hard to believe that someone could be ignorant of the requirement.

Quite honestly, you had to have had your head stuck in the sand not to know about the selective service registration requirement.

Yep, I just read the part about him finding out about it at 30 but, now he's 36? Victory2037 is a lost cause.

This will give you a glimpse of how many people have been denied Federal aid for failure to register for Selective Service. Before you start reiterating how you just 'didn't know', let me suggest that you should have used the internet to find what your obligations were to a nation who's approaching a decade of armed conflict abroad. Do you now understand why I think you're trolling? You didn't look at the news for a fucking decade, did you?

Edit: Oh yeah. I forgot this thread: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=331299&highlight=selective+service

We need Selective Service so that we can see who the pussies are when they post that they can't get any Federal aid on student loans.

isn't there a IQ cut off for acceptance? If you test low enough does that legally disqualify you from the requirement?

Victory2037, I'd go that route.

Just looking now, looks like NYS has the SSS stuff in the license application form:
...If I am a male at least 18 but less than 26 years of age, I consent to be registered with the Selective Service System (SSS), if so
required by federal law. I authorize the Commissioner to forward to the SSS my personal information that is required for registration...

But, Mr. keird, I thought people in third world countries liked war. Why else would they have so many and what does that have to do with ME?

Wait, you Americans are required to sign up for that shit? If so, why isn't it done automatically?

Or even still, what's the point? Won't they just draft you anyway?

/didn't read the thread.

Yeah it doesn't make much sense. After looking at that sss.gov website it appears that I am registered for it. I have no idea when. Must have been part of a drivers license application or something.

Either way, LOL @ all the people in this thread who act like they are all high and mighty for registering. If you were that noble you would have enlisted.

There's a number of us that are enlisted, commissioned, or were. In this thread.

It's not about being high and mighty, it's about following the law and what's fair.

You don't put your name in the hat then that's not fair to those that did.

Card was dated 1990 so not sure why I got another one along the way or if this was the original but took more than three months to send to me.

I'm sure there are. I'm also sure that there are plenty who haven't, aren't, or weren't.

There's ~308,000,000 U.S. citizens, I think that there's less than 1% have any military affiliation. I'm not surprised that there are plenty of comments from people that 'haven't' in this forum. It doesn't mean that I wouldn't drink with them. :awe:

It's like that movie, Dragonslayer when the Princess' name wasn't put into the lottery and in the end she rigged it so only her name was in there. Fair for all or no soup for you!

When filling out my FAFSA online there was a little checkbox for something like "Check here if you want to register for the SS." If it weren't for that I probably would have completely missed it. Thank you internet.
I'm pretty sure that's how I registered, too.

I never registered because I'm one of the few American males that wasn't required too :)

* Men born from March 29, 1957, through December 31, 1959, were not required to register because registration was suspended for several years in the late 1970s.

For those that strongly believe in the registration should ask former Viet Vet that was drafted for their opinion to see if it is worth it.

I know at least 1 well respected AT member that was a draft Viet Vet.

dont you have anything better to do than be rude? the guy didnt do anything wrong....why do you feel the need to mock him?

Actually, he did do something wrong but, is unhappy about paying the price. As for mocking him, the world will do that free of charge. I simply voiced my opinion.

And I wonder if he felt wronged by all the little rich kids buying their way out of the draft. No difference here. Everyone puts in and shares the risk. Nobody is special.

I think you are the one who is a lost cause.

You've never made a mistake or overlooked something and then been unhappy with the consequences?
