I did a surprise apartment inspection last night *PICS*

Because of this thread I took a serious look around my "clean" apartment and realized that it was, in fact, not that clean-looking to an outsider. (Not THAT bad of course) So I spent some time tossing, scrubbing, organizing etc. Looks good now.

Thanks for the graphic reminder.

Good luck with your apartment rental . . .

Women

I was going to clean my place, but after looking at the pics, i realized it could be worst. Mine is nowhere near that level of nastiness (just messy/disorganized), so i think i'll let mine go until spring.

updates? he ever clean it?

Currently he has about 15 bags of garbage in the front yard waiting for the trash man. I probably didn't make a dent in the mess up there. Hey, at least it is 15 bags I don't have to fill. 😉

I still can't believe somebody was actually living there... i thought he probably used it as a place to smoke crack or get drunk. Guy must seriously have mental problems if he lived like that and didn't see a problem with it.

I have a few neighbors who lets their apts get pretty bad but, nothing on this scale. Wow, I really feel sorry for you, since you are going to need to clean up the place.

Is this guy "normal" ? Looks like a serious problem under the surface....Id be as nice as possible and come up with a reason the apartment has to be evacuated. Give him his deposit and hope he doesnt remember you when he gets his transmission from God through his "divine beercan antenna". At which point he mercifully sends everyone to meet their maker in a shiatstorm of bullets. No one can live in that apartment and be in a good place in their lives.

Is this apartment in Murray Hill? Been looking for a new place lately, and one of the places I went to last night, the guy was still living there. It looked a lot like that. The listing was a "huge" 550 sq ft, actual apartment size was 174 sq ft (I measured it, this discrepency is sadly the norm for Manhattan, there must be some law that says they are allowed to claim up to triple the actual space because every single apartment is within 20 sq ft of 1/3 of what it is listed as), and in that 174 sq ft were crammed 13 filled outdoor trash bags, clothes, empty cans & bottles, pots & pans (not all clean) all over the place, including on the mattress (the mattress was on the floor, no bed), lots of other miscellaneous junk lying around. Mostly the smell of cigar smoke masked the other odors. And yes, the guy was living there. He was home in fact.

The standards have gone WAY down... this was one of 2 places I looked at last night which had running water. Saw other interesting space-saving innovations that I never would have thought of, like saving space by combining the kitchen & bathroom so you only need one sink. This way, if you want a beer while on the can, you can grab it out of the fridge RIGHT THERE! So sanitary...

HOLY COW!!!

I just found this thread!!

I did not read the whole thing... so sorry if it has been asked...

did anyone try to take that poor dog out of there and find it a good home?

As of December 1, I gave him another month to find a place. I seriously cut him too much slack. He is going to move out this weekend. I gave him the extra month, because he actually bagged all the trash up and put it at the curb for the trash men. Unfortunately, when I checked the apartment a few days ago, the trash has started piling up again.

Reminds me of a foreclosed property my Real Estate professor once purchased with his partner at auction (no one could look in the house before purchase). Police investigators that were involved had to break the windows, not to get in, but to get out! Now I know where the previous owner went; to the OP's apartment!

Evict him! :|
