I agree.. though I wouldn't spend $300 on shoes, clothing or anything like that for myself.Clothing comes from the consignment shop, shoes from payless, personal care
items, makeup are free from CVS or Walgreens. If I can't get it for free or nearly free I don't need it.

I don't/can't care about what my wife purchases. I'm usually the habitual gadget buyer and she is usually more budget-conscious. Most of the stuff she buys is for our kids anyway. When she does have something relatively expensive, it's usually me who buys it for her anyway (ring, purse, watch, etc.). I probably spend a lot more on computer and AV stuff so I can't argue with her on her buying habits.

We are reverse of your situation. Most of what I buy, it's for the family. When she buys, it's mostly for her, which I don't have problems with since they are small.

I don't rule her. Marriage is full of compromise and joint agreement. We makes decisions together.

She calls me couple of days after and tells me that she got an awesome deal on the boots and how much she saved.

Wife: Guess what?
Me: What?
Wife: I found the boots I wanted at a great price.
Me: Cool, how much was it?
Wife: It's only going to cost us $150 for the boots, I saved $100.
Me: (proud), Good job babe, that's great.
Wife: Yeah! Since I saved $100 on the boots, I spent $150 to buy 2 other pairs of shoes.
Me: ???
Wife: Isn't it great? I'm so happy!
Me: ???
Wife: Are you there?
Me: Wait, so you saved lot of money on the boots, so you spent it on more shoes?
Wife: Yeah.. I ordered another pair of boots and shoes. I can't wait.
Me: (no so proud), Good job honey, I gotta go..

Seems that I am not the only one with this question.
I am finally over it. Thinking back, I've gotten something that I probably don't deserve.

I do love her, I will be happy for her. Gonna do my best to get some tonight.

You never knew this about women?

When they find a great deal, they buy more. Every woman I know does this.

don't start with her, we don't need an opinionated pity party around here like the ones that always started in L&R.

It's bastards like you that ruin it for other guys. Sorry, but I'll never be excited when my wife buys new shoes, and I'm not going to fake it.

Sorry, TB, but there is a bit of quid pro quo with my wife. I show appreciation for her hobbies and stuff and she shows the same for mine. Although my hobbies tend towards the more adult hobbies...she so far has been cool with it. So I can be excited when she thinks she's gotten something for herself or us.

Reminds me of one of my friends. Her BF said she can go on a shopping spree with like 2 grand. They went to one of the big malls and ended up spending like 200 bucks or something and she was wondering why he got mad that she wanted to go and spend the rest of the money.

Obviously the guys among us agreed and was like, his gift was that day of shopping, you didn't buy stuff, don't expect more. The girls were like, but he was going to spend 2k anyway, why not spend only a couple of hundred.

It's like women don't understand the value of money. "Oh, I saved some! I think I'll go spend it now!"
Whereas our thought process is: "Oh, I saved some! I'll save it, invest it, and spend the interest!"

Well, now she has new boots and 2 pairs of shoes, that means she won't need any more shoes for at least 1 or 2 years .... :)

Me: "I love you."

Granted, we haven't spent more than $40 on ANY pair of shoes... but still.

You can't get a good pair of athletic shoes or dress shoes for under $50.00 and thats on sale.

Ever heard of "Payless"?

You, on the other hand, assumed that she would buy only the one pair of shoes and see the extra $150 spent as money down the drain.

This is actually an interesting object lesson in how budgets typically work. People will seek to spend the entire budget rather than have some left over, so even if they find a great deal on what they initially wanted the money for, they will still find ways to spend the entire amount.

What you should have done was given her the OK to get just that pair of boots without attaching a budget to it.

ZV

Yeah.
But If he didn't attach any budget to it, she'd buy a pair of boots that costs $500.

he said good lol, Payless shoes are complete pieces of shit. Even if a person's ok with the poor quality, I don't see how they can handle how fucking uncomfortable they are. Payless is cheap, in every sense of the word.

I own a pair of loafers from Payless, they were very inexpensive.
I own a pair of Floorshiem's, they were about 10x the price but are infinity more comfortable. When I wear the Payless ones my feet start to hurt after 30 minutes of walking. I can wear my others all day with no issues. I like comfort, so spending more on shoes is worth it, but maybe that's just me :)

I suppose. Isn't the point of a hobby as an adult to have an excuse to get away from the wife though? ;)

Max Depth, You are absolutely correct, I should have acted happy for her. Maybe I would have gotten some last night. This kept bothering me, I kept telling myself to "let it go" . But for some reason I couldn't last night.
I think I'm finally over it now, I'll ask her to dress up for me tonight and be nice to her.

Oh yeah.. She did buy me a $10,000 BMW motorcycle 2 years ago and also a beater bike this year for me to learn to ride.

I need to let it go..

she outearns you.. bought you nice toys but you sat around being "bothered" all night because she spent $300 on herself which you agreed was ok?
