SMB3 was by far one of the most fun games in my childhood, IIRC you have to get the racoon tail and fly up in certain places for the whistles in world 1, don't remember off hand though.

Oh where can I get this emulator, wonder if games like River City Ransom and maybe Blades of Steel are available.

Almost any NES emulators can play those games. Some emulators are more accurate than others.

Edit: Actually, this one would make more sense...

Damn that brings back memories. I remember counting every dollar I saved to get my SNES as a kid!
Same. It took months and the wait was excruciating! My twin brother and I collected cans, mowed lawns, and bought penny candy with our allowance of food stamps in order to buy ours in Feb '94. We thought we missed the deadline for the free by mail Super Mario All*Stars but Nintendo extended it "due to popular demand." We were running out of time even for the extended offer so we sold our NES with SMB/DH and SMB3. We still didn't have enough for the Super Set with Super Mario World and two controllers, so we had to settle for the Control Set with no game and only one controller. Luckily, SMA*S replaced the games we lost and then some, SMW was only $13, and the SNES has port detection to let 2p alternating games play with only one controller. Really dulled the sting. :)

I was a boy scout when I got my first Nintendo. I sold more candy bars then anyone in I think most of Southern California. So since I won all the prizes they gave me a $100 gift certificate for Kmart and I knew exactly what I wanted! A Nintendo! Boy did I play that thing all night and day. Surprisingly my mom let me too. LOL

My Super Nintendo came to my brother, sister and I as a Christmas gift with the added help of my now deceased well to do great aunt. She always bought me the nicest gifts for Christmas. It did have the Lost levels and other Mario games certificate my mom sent in to get the game for free.

I never bought a N64 myself. My Bro bought one from his friend and boy did we play Goldeneye like no tomorrow. Latter on came the epic Perfect Dark and I played that all damn day long too. Now I just play Goldeneye and Perfect Dark in the Mupen64 emulator. The Mario 3 you see here in my video is from a stand along emulator that has all the classic Marios including Lost Levels and Super Mario World. I have just been playing 3 on it. I should try Mario World again. Been mostly messing around in my BF2 AIX mod server though so I put it down.

So your SNES was probably Christmas 1993. I was still frantically trying to earn and save $ for mine because the original deadline was the end of the year, IIRC. I remember being so bummed that we missed the deadline and still didn't have enough $ for our SNES. When we finally made it to a proper game store (Babbage's) we were so relieved to see that it had been renewed and that there was a cheaper option. That was the impetus we needed to sell our NES and get over the last hump. You were probably already getting your copy of SMA*S by then but we were starting our fast with no games (sold our NES, remember?) for a few months (felt like 6) because our mother had to pay shipping and handling by check which added another 2-3 weeks to the already-long 4-8 week processing time. :(

Yeah, unfortunately I was really on the fence about the SNES when it first came out. I had saved up enough money to buy it at release, but I was really thinking of getting a Sega Game Gear instead. Not wanting to make the wrong decision, I waited a bit. It wasn't until I played Populous and FFII (US) that I purchased the SNES. I never did buy Populous, but I did rent it several times (I bought FFII when I bought the SNES).

For emulators, you can easily grab a PSX to USB which allows you to use a PS2 controller. They work flawlessly with every emulator I've tried starting from the Atari emulators all the way to the GC emulator.

I have an emulator "node box" for lack of a better word that allows me to plugin a PS2 pad or an N64 pad. Bought it on eBay for like 12 bucks. I also have a USB Super Nintendo controller.

I got to say. To emulate Game Cube, and N64 is the bomb! Playing Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on a Comp... it's just magical. Perfect Dark apparently was some kind of comic strip from what I read at Carrington Institute. I always thought the game would make a great movie. I mean the story line is brilliant. An alien race called the Skeeter crash lands into the ocean and allies with diabolical people of power to overthrow the POTUS. Pretty crazy Obama was in that game in the year 2000. LOL

If I was the director of a Perfect Dark movie, I'd make William H Macy play Jonathan Steinberg of Perfect Dark. LOL!

I don't have the time. LOL And when I do pick it up again I quickly become bored at losing all the time. That level is hard and then to have to go back to level one right after you beat the damn thing. I may cheat.

Don't cheat. If 7-year old me can beat Super Mario 3, I'm sure you can tackle the game if you just practice.

I've never beaten SMB1, I think SMB3 is far easier than 1 and even 2 for that matter.

I played Mario 2 like everyday when I was a kid and never could beat that damn game. That was on a Nintendo though and as you know, once you loose all your lives you start all over again. Just like Mario 1. Well, Mario 3 was like that too. But in Super Nintendo you could save.

You can go from World 1 to World 8, so just focus on the few stages in World 1 and the rest on World 8.

1-2
Rack up loads of extra lives until your time runs out. Do it again until you have 99 lives.

1-4
Collect almost every coin so the white Toad's House appears and get a magic P-wing.

1-3
Get the whistle.

1-[mini fortress]
Get the whistle.

Then just focus on World 8.

The lives excuse doesn't hold in 2 and much less in 3. In 2 you got lives pretty easily by doing that dark coin slot machine thing. In 3 lives were handed out left and right. It's only 1 that was very tight with 1 up mushrooms.
