I can't connect to an internet address from work

I can ping ping 68.73.241.1 from there, but 2,3,4,5 all time out, same as 10. I didn't try any others.

The address you can ping appears to be their router or firewall gateway.

The remainder of the hosts are behind their firewall.

I think their firewall is blocking your specific IP for some reason. It's definitely not a routing issue if you can ping that 241.1 address from the office.

Your next step would have to be to validate with them what's going on.

FYI, all of the other hosts on the subnet (2-10) appear to be blocking ICMP at their firewall, so you shouldn't be able to ping any of them except .1

I agree with this. Something on their end is blocking your traffic.

I'm not entirely surprised that their first reaction when you called was that they don't block anything. IT people tend to have big egos, and sometimes it takes a little bit of pushing to get us to accept the fact that there might be something wrong with the systems we manage, and that we should spend a little bit of time looking into it. It's easy to get in the habit of blaming the user...it's their "fault" a lot of the time.

^ Good call guys. I had similar issue with the vendor (GE) where they had to allow traffic coming from our server with specific sets of IP's. After that was allowed we were able to jump right in....

Agreed, some I.T.'s are ignorant and lazy.... they don't try to look it up that it may be their end. Call them up and whine about it. God I hate calling. Email them.

I'll try calling them again tomorrow then, thanks for all the feedback! I'd have felt pretty dumb calling Comcast and finding out it wasn't their fault.

I am Not sure that in this case It is an ISP issue.

However it is a common practice to ISPs to first react with an Answer: "Our computer does not show anything wrong it is on your 9customer LAN".

They probably will give this answer even if it happened that their computer caught fire and it does not work.

Anyway, I keep a portable Chromium Browser on a Flash Drive, it is as is install browser with no Add-ons or any special "skills".

Whenever I have problem with a site I first try it with the Chromium.

Why Chromium Portable? My experience shows that it is the most docile high level browser that minimally interfere with traffic.

This definitely does not seem like a local internet issue. I tried this at one of our comcast locations and it worked fine. Sounds like the destination site blocked your IP address. By the time you get around to calling them and they actually look in their web server settings, it'll probably have cleared itself out. Most servers don't permanently block things.

I called www.dupageco.org and asked them to check it again, and also gave them their blocked address. I was told again they don't block anything, but it's magically working now! So I'm guessing it was something done inadvertantly, but at least it's fixed. Thanks for all the help!!!
