I've got two different nose sprays of two different formulas. Neither one is working for me. I can't breathe! And when I fall asleep, my mouth snap shut and then I pop back awake because I'm sufficating!!! I HATE being stopped up!!! Any help from anyone?!!?

The two sprays I have are Afrin and 4-way. They were the only two they sell at CVS. They had CVS brands but the ingredients were the same as the two brand name sprays.

One of thoes vicks humidifiers. Or one of thoes new sudacare plugins they have now, use it overnight.
You can sit in your bathroom and run the hot water full blast and make a temporary steam room.

Sinuses suck.

I'm guessing you're congested?

Have you tried a warm mist humidifier w/ Vicks?

Also, try eating foods that contain bromelain and flavonoids (anti-inflammatory) and try having a serving of spicy Thai Tom Yum soup (or food with capsaicin) -- it should open up your nasal pasages.

I recommend Horseradish. That will clear out just about anything. :Q

Or Wasabi!

Seriously, try any of these alternative remedies before you drug yourself up. Hope you feel better soon, too!

I've found that those type of remedies only last for an hour at most...then i'm stuffed up again. Sudafed or Alieve (Cold and sinus) last me quite a lot longer.

Sudafed took an hour for it to kick in, and then for me, it only lasted about 2 to 3 hours tops! But yes, it helped A LOT.

If you've been using the nasal sprays for more than 3 days, then chances are, they won't be working anytime soon. Rebound congestion is very common with nasal sprays, since the decongestant activity of the active ingredients is strong enough to cause severe vasoconstriction that actually results in rebound medicamentosa. This is when your nasal passages become constricted again, not because of the drugs not working, but since the vasoconstriction was so severe that it resulted in hypoxia of the area, and the inflammation is actually carbon dioxide accumulation. Try something else to relieve the congestion, but stay off the nasal sprays for a week or so before trying it again.

my first post should have been for Alieve Cold and Sinus. That's the best one i've ever used.

But true...if you use the spices first...that'll clear it up, while you are waiting for the drugs to kick in. 😛

Man, that has happened to me also.

I woke up gasping for air, I had been dreaming I was suffocating.

When it happens, I can lay on my right side and move my head back like I was looking up and my right nostril will become clear.

Dunno why.

Good luck!.

🙂

Horseradish? Wasabi? Pepper Sauce? Thai food? I'm sleepy! Not hungry! 😀

Seriously... I think DietSierraMist is right.... Sudafed? I have Benadryl. Is that the same thing?

Start taking Claritin to reduce your allergies. Don't use Sudafed except when you're desperate because it has a rebound effect--i.e. when you stop using Sudafed, your nasal passages will become even more stopped up! (Same thing with some nasal sprays--try using plain saline sprays to sooth the irritation rather than a medicated spray)

Winter in Florida is pretty harsh for people allergic to mold. The fungus dries up and spews spores everywhere! Is your home clean and free of mold?

ya that happens to me too, if i sit a ceratain way, one or both sides clear up and i can breath perfectly. frankly, i dont have this problem becuase i sleep with my mouth open and dont snore 🙂

At least you still have your humour.

Is your congestion a result of allergies or colds?

Yes. If you want a complete solution, you need to:

1. Get the Vicks Vaporub.
2. Boil a pot of water.
3. Put some vicks in the pot. Take the pot, set it on a table.
4. Get a towel, then put the towel over your head and the vicks creating a steam room. Close your eyes or use swimming goggles. It will burn your eyes. Stay in there for 10 minutes.

I know this is kinda weird, but it will work.

NO!!!!

I took Claritin the day before yesterday and it didn't do SQUAT for me.

And I have a cold. Not allergies. I had a sore throat and what not, but those symptoms have subsided. I now only have the stopped up nose.

That reminds me of a scene from Crocodile Dundee...

Ugg... I found a bottle of Robitussin CF. I've got to get to bed so I can take my daughter to daycare and get to work on time in the morning. I hope this stuff works. 🙁

if it has pseudoephedrine hydrochloride in it it will work somewhat like sudafed.

sudafed is a decongestant, benadryl is an antihistamine, i think.

i think plain old sudafed(generic brand is a lot cheaper) is the best thing to have on hand for emegencies.
