I CANT BAKE a batch of COOKIES

I wanted to be nice to everybody this year so I go out and get some chocolate chips to bake some chocolate chip cookies.

Here is what I did to make them and I think I know what went wrong.

1 - Egg
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Sugar
2 Cups Flour
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 Teaspoon Baking soda


Now here is where I think I lost at life. I listened to my DAD of all people...

I only had 1 stick of butter and I had 1 Stick of this COUNTRY CROCK "SPREAD".

Mixed all this together and when I started baking the cookies, they just oozed out EVERYWHERE!!!! I noticed alot of oil going all around separating from the cookie and I have a feeling it was the COUNTRY CROCK


I hate life, I tried to be nice to everybody and even was going to put these cookies in little cookie jars I bought everybody. I might as well run to the local supermarket and put cookies inside since I FAILED at LIFE.

The Country Crock crap likely ruined them. I always use real butter. The Original Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe always turns out great cookies for me. :cookie:

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels

Directions:
PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
 
You can't use any of the spreads for baking - they are mostly water. Use only real butter, Lard (for cookies - NO!) or shortening for baking.
 
If you used 2 sticks of butter with that, it's no wonder they oozed---too much lubrication! 🙂

But yeah, you want to use real unsalted butter with baking, not something made of oil.

Good call Mosh, that's the recipe I use. If you want thinner cookies (like the ones they make in high school/college cafeterias) only use 2 cups of flour.
 
Hell I've used a margarine stick before and the cookies have turned out fine.


2 sticks of butter seems excessive. I generally follow the directions on whatever package of chocolate chips I happen to pick up. Try again.
 
Don't beat yourself up man, how many people you know that do things right on first try? At least give the guy credit for trying.

Don't listen to e-perfect people here.
 
Always use REAL (UN-Salted preferably) butter (that country crock sh1t is a rip off, they just add abunch of water and oil to your butter and it taste not near as good), and a big secret.... put in some 'vanilla extract' flavoring & and a dash of 'butter extract' flavoring. And be sure to UNDER COOK them, when you pull them out, them and the pan are super hot and still cooking, just leave'um on the stove top till cooled down. I like to use big spoons, those icecream scopes work perfect for this and even pop out with the button instead of using 2 spoon or your finger.

And Nestle Trollhouse Cookies are the ONLY way to go! And you can skip the from 'scratch' idea and just buy the premixed packs, just adding MORE trollhouse chips, vanilla, REAL BUTTER (thats at ROOM TEMPERATURE) and the extra flavoring of butter for some real 'boom'. Also try putting in a small scoop of HELLMANS (this MUST be HELLMANS, its the best), it will give it a nice chewy texture, works wonders in bronies too. And if It call for 2 eggs, use . Makes um less cakey

I use margarine all the time instead of butter, and it's fine.
 
Oh I almost forgot...add a tsp of lemon juice and those cookies will be soft no matter how long you cook them!

:thumbsup: I made some of those on Sunday. They always turn out excellent. The only way you can mess up that recipe is if you overcook them...or if you don't follow the directions and start substituting ingredients.

Same here. I usually use one stick of butter and one stick of margerine - because that's what my mom and my grandmother did - gives it a great texture. And yes, extra chips. Though to be honest, a lot of those extra chips are so that I can eat chips while I'm making the cookie dough.

Margerine is not the same thing as "spread".

Dang, now I'm hungry for chocolate chip cookies.

Eh, I don't even bother as my wife has the Martha Stewart Baking thing down pat. I just cook dinner and leave all the fancy stuff to her.
