I used to struggle as well. Even had my sleep patterns analyzed.

Guess what? They said "get more sleep and build a pattern of waking up at the same time everyday. Once the pattern is set it will be easier and you'll getup naturally even without an alarm clock"

It worked. 9 hours of sleep everynight. Any health literatur on sleep recommends 8-9 hours of sleep. 10-11 for teenagers and younger.
 
Get an elaborate alarm clock system, buy like 30 and set them to go off every 30 seconds. Place them randomly in your room.

Or, simply go to bed earlier/get up earlier 🙂

Exactly what I was thinking.

My sister-in-law has the same "problem"...Her problem...she just doesn't want to get up.

She has 2 alarm clocks (one of which is extra loud), her husband, my phone call, my wife's phone call (they ride to work together), my horn (as I drop off my wife)...and she still is in bed most days when we get there in the morning.

Don't forget that for some people they literally don't wake up. I was one of them and had to seek medical consultation to resolve it. Nothing to do with willpower.

Remember you can't fire somebody for a disability. Some folks are just "wake-upily challanged". 🙂

I've gone through a lot of alarm clocks trying to find one that gets me up. The one I have now has dual ascending alarms. They start kind of low, then get louder, and finally annoyingly loud. I think the changing sound helps me get up more than a repetitive one. When I used to have a standard alarm clock that never changed loudness or beeping patterns, I can remember the beeping being integrated into my dreams. But it rarely woke me up. 🙂

Heh. Do what I do. Have two alarm clocks on separate nightstands/locations. I have one on the nightstand next to me, the other is far enough away from the bed that it's out of reach. I HAVE to get out of bed to shut it off. Works for me...most times. 😉

LOL! I use that too...

But I'm REALLY bad... I have 5 alarm clocks... 3 actually, but two of them have "dual" alarm settings...

I usually take until the third or fourth alarm goes off before I'm awake...

What are you smokin? You would NEVER keep a job in my profession if you could not be on time.

I need about 8 hours sleep myself or I can really tell a difference in being alert, but I usually get up before the alarm goes off even if I get only 6 hours of sleep.

The average amount of sleep you need per night can vary greatly.

Average for most people is around 7-9 hours / night.

Some people require as much as 10-12 and can't function with less. (Einstein was a 10-12 hour sleeper)
There have been documented reports of people needing only 1-2 hours of sleep a night to function normally!
 
Be more active...you'll sleep better, wake up more refreshed.

I should be one to talk, but then again I have no problem getting up on command.

WTF, I should go to sleep at 8? How do I eat? How do I do homework? Chores?

Are you overweight? Do you snore? Do you always feel tired? Do you fall asleep unexpectedly while sitting still for few minutes, like watching TV? The reason I ask is that you may have sleep apnea. You may want to consult your doctor and have him send you for a sleep study. I know first hand how dangerous sleep apnea can be.
 
I have the same problem... I must go to bed after 1am so that i will able to get out of the bed by 8am. If I go to bed before 1am, I will have a lot of trouble getting out of the bed until around 10 am. I don't know why... So I usually go bed after 1am so that I can sleep around 7 to 8 hours then force myself grab the coffee before nine am. It's impossible for me to go to bed early as 10pm to 12am unless I am very tired. I m not a morning person neither but it works for me...


I know some people require 7 to 8 hours of sleep. I only need six hours of sleep since unvierisity but i guess my age changes and need more than eight hours now...
 
I suggest sleeping at your work, that way your co-workers can wake you up and you're there on time. Just a suggestion...try it.
