“The last thing I will say, though — let me say this about health care and the health care debate, because I think it also bears on a whole lot of other issues. If you look at the package that we’ve presented — and there’s some stray cats and dogs that got in there that we were eliminating, we were in the process of eliminating. For example, we said from the start that it was going to be important for us to be consistent in saying to people if you can have your — if you want to keep the health insurance you got, you can keep it, that you’re not going to have anybody getting in between you and your doctor in your decision making. And I think that some of the provisions that got snuck in might have violated that pledge.” -Barack Obama 1/29/2010

So was he LYING when he said we could keep our Doctors and current insurance, or was he just incredibly stupid? Did the Republicans 'sneak in' these provisions which violated his 'pledge'? Or was it his own party? If we can't trust what Obama PROMISED us is in the Healthcare bill, what ELSE is in there that we don't know about?

And yet he and Democrat leaders like President Pelosi say they are going to continue to ram Healthcare through. YOU LIE Mr. President.

Project much? Jump to conclusions often? Take a look at yourself and what you believe, what it is that would prompt you to do that...

Pretty lame rant. I think he's serving notice that any such provisions in the *proposed legislation* need to be removed...

Otherwise, there's no point to saying what he did...

I'm not jumping to ANY conclusions. He SAID that its important for the Democrat party to SAY that you can keep your health insurance... not that was it important for that fact to actually be true.

I see you have him on the ropes now, with your expert word parsing.

Give me a break. Using the word "say" was a manner of speech that you are purposefully interpretting in some ridiculously literalistic way. Your interpretation is proven false by the words that you left out when you purposefully truncated the quote. If it wasn't important that it actually be true, he wouldn't be saying that those provisions which violated the pledge needed to be removed. Indeed, if your interpretation was correct, he never would have even brought up the subject.

Your maturity level is shockingly low, even by the standards of this forum.

Wow, pretty pathetic on OP's part. You do realize Obama is not the one writing this bill?
Also, there is no guarantee you can keep the insurance company you LOVE so much, even without this bill. Your employer can dump them (or get dumped by them) tomorrow and get a different insurer, or drop coverage entirely.

Just another example why politicians in general should never be trusted, and that includes Obama. What they say and what actually happens are two very very different things. Obama tries to 'sell' the health care overhaul, and trying to reassure people that they don't need to worry about losing their current setup if they like it. The people actually crafting the bill don't care a lick about that and create a bill that doesn't go along with what the president is selling. Hence, the lesson everyone should learn is not to trust any politician at his word --- look what is actually being done, not what you are being told.

Is the part at the end, which I was focusing on, that says "And I think that some of the provisions that got snuck in might have violated that pledge" - Is that word parsing as well? He's saying the bill does not do what HE PROMISED us it would do.

I think the 'say' part was just a little insight into why it never made it into the bill.. They had no intention of keeping that promise. But even if THAT part isn't true.. the FACTS, by his own admission, show his promise has not been kept in the current healthcare bill that Nancy Pelosi has said she is still trying to pass and Obama said he supports.

My employer did not PROMISE me I could keep the same provider. Obama said he supports THIS bill. He has REPEATEDLY said, as President, that we could keep our current plans if we were happy with them as part of the justification for allowing THIS bill to pass.

With as narrow of a margin as this bill has, Obama can certainly make demands on the writers of this bill. Unless he is so weak that he can no longer even act as a leader of the Democrat party? Hell, he's not even ASKING them to do it. Which tells me something. He was probably LYING when he made the promise.

What's pathetic is Obama and pretty much ALL of the Dems have made the same statement over and over. Did you see the coverage of the town hall meetings or what? And partisan hacks such as yourself refuse to remove the blinders and admit the truth. It is happening slowly as I have talked to some very liberal members of my family this week who were die hard supporters of the Dems, and even they are now admitting what a lying, condescending, pompous ass our president is. Did you catch what he said to Stephanopolis (sp?) about how he has to keep repeating things to the American people in order for them to understand what he wants rather than admit the majority just don't want it, period. Keep your blinders on if you must, but politics are changing in the USofA buddy and the people are paying much better attention now.

How can Obama let you keep the insurance plan you are sooooo happy with if your employer decides to switch or they decide to dump your employer? You are living in some dream world.

I guess its convenient to make certain things in big text to draw attention away from the first sentence where he says those are things that got into the bill that they're working to eliminate.

Regardless of what you think of Obama, you, OP, that was an impressively dishonest attempt at spin.

What ELSE got into the bill they didn't know about? What are those things they are trying to eliminate? If Obama was keeping his other promise of transparency maybe these sneaky little details wouldn't have gotten in?

He says NOW they are working to eliminate them.. were they 2 months ago when they were trying to ram this through? I don't think so. I think they've been caught and are doing damage control now.

If we don't even know for sure that KEY COMPONENTS of this bill don't have serious flaws, should we really be trying to jump/pole vault/parachute it in? (To quote Nancy Pelosi). This component was a key component that Obama has stated tons of times while campaigning AND while President.
