I can has speeding ticket?

Pulled over for doing 83 in a 70 in Arkansas last month.

Cop 'did me a favor' and cited me for 'negligent operation' so it wouldn't show up on my driving record. You can pay that fine online or by mail sir!

Fine turns out to be $190 + 20.50 rocessing fee paying online, need to call to see if fee applies over phone.

Wonder if I'd be better off with the 13 over ticket and taking traffic school.

Yay Revenue Collection!

Doing you a favor would be sending you on your way with a warning.

The cop instead of sticking it in your ass~ stuck it in your mouth.

Maybe you shouldn't speed.

83 in a 70 is a bit excessive IMO. At least too excessive to complain about. Now if you were going 75-77, I would be more on your side.

I doubt it. That's likely to be pretty spendy...here in California, by the time they got done adding all the fees and penalties, it'd be close to $500.

Depends a bit on the car and the driver, but I have no issues with 10, 15, sometimes even 20 over (20 applies to highways).

I dunno, I think it depends when. If there are other cars on the road doing speed limit, then definitely. But if it's mostly barren on the highway, I feel like 83 in a 70 is perfectly fine assuming safe driving conditions.

I guess I'm not really talking about safety. I'm talking more about the "amount" that you broke the posted speed limit.

San Diego, CA

got ticketed for going 83 MPH in 65 MPH zone on 8/8/2011

fine is $360 and violation known to insurance

$412 + traffic school, violation unknown to insurance

Then we acknowledge it is about revenue generation, not public safety, and throws into question why speed limits are set so low, why yellow lights are so short, and so on.

And if you're just talking about this one little instance with the laws as they are, well, don't mind me. 😀

My personal opinion is that even if the speed limit was unfair, he knew he was breaking the law. And he was doing it by a fairly large amount. Basically, he knew the risk he was taking by driving at that speed (the risk being a fine, not being unsafe), so he shouldn't complain.

All you states have it easy! In MA, you either win or lose. There is none of this take a class in lieu of points on your record or bargaining.

If it makes you feel better, I got out of ticket downing 90 in a 60. 🙂 The cops was pretty cool, which is the complete opposite of the cop that pulled you over. 83 in a 70? Seriously, doesn't he have better things to do than collect BS fees from citizens? Apparently not.

Maybe the culture is different in Texas. Here going 83 in a 70 is pretty excessive speeding.

When my uncle was visiting from New York he seemed to think that 70 meant 85 was the appropriate speed and that going 90 was speeding. He got pulled over about 5 minutes after leaving the airport with his rental car.

Texas wants to raise their speed limits to 85. :awe:
