For going 13 over? Fuck that shit.

You know the saying, "nine your fine, 10 your mine", I got pulled going 87 in a 70, didn't give the cop any crap excuses, just told him I was tired and wanted to get home, he wound up writing me for 79 in a 70 saving me $150 off the fine, sometimes a little courtesy goes a long way..

Wow, speeding in the States is expensive!

I think I paid about £60 quid last year when I was caught.

LOL...he should have used that as an excuse...

"Do you know why I pulled you over..."

"Officer, I just want to GTFO of this dam state..."

83 in a 70 in Arkansas? Can't blame you for wanting to get out of that state sooner. :awe:

I think the Sheriff knew it too, speed trap was set up just shy of Memphis. I was only a few minutes from being out of the state.

Not begrudging the ticket, obviously wishing I hadn't got it but I was speeding and thats how it works. Thought for a moment last night that I'd have been better off with my actual violation, but it sounds like I just had an inaccurate idea of tickect costs.

I have never gotten ticketed. I make a pretty good effort not to. Speed limits are silly low, though.

When 95% of the drivers do a minimum of 115 km/h in a given place with 100km/h speed limit - and let's assume this is a motorway so there are no pedestrians, bikers or low-speed transport - why doesn't the road administration raise the speed limit? Obviously the drivers have decided to accept the additional risk (if any...) from higher speed, and that should be their business.

That has always been my approach, politeness and courtesy cost me nothing and have the potential of paying off in a warning or reduced charge. It seems to be a concept that eludes one of my brothers who always plays the part of an asshole when dealing with cops and he pretty much always reaps the rewards of that behavior.

Pulled over for doing 83 in a 70 in Arkansas last month.

Cop 'did me a favor' and cited me for 'negligent operation' so it wouldn't show up on my driving record. You can pay that fine online or by mail sir!

Fine turns out to be $190 + 20.50 rocessing fee paying online, need to call to see if fee applies over phone.

Wonder if I'd be better off with the 13 over ticket and taking traffic school.

Yay Revenue Collection!

Here in PA I got a ticket once and the cop reduced it to some minor violation, but the fine was still around $200.

Upon further inspection, the actual fine was only about $20. The other $180+ was processing/administration fees.

Not having the ticket show up in insurance as speeding ticket will save a lot over the long term. Otherwise insurance will stick it to you with increases for years to come.

i like how when you pay for tickets at court with a credit card, there is a $10 credit card fee.

Tickets in Texas typically are around $150. A little more in some areas and a little less on others. I just get upset at the small towns that pull people over for doing the speed limit to people passing through and issue them a bogus ticket. Seen it happen more than once. They know the person isn't going to be coming back to fight it and will most likely mail in the court costs and do driving school. Hell of a racket to raise revenues with in these small towns around here.

Got a friend who's a Doc, got caught speeding going to work. He had a stethoscope and lab coat on his passenger seat. Cop asked him if he knew why he was pulled over. Answered with "got called in for emergency". Cop saw the stethoscope and let him on his merry way without a ticket. It wasn't an emergency, he was just going to work. Suffice to say, friend and I were jealous.

I would like to know if this has ever worked for anyone and what is the strategy if you do use it?

I'm 1 and 1 on these.
Won one, lost one.

The one I won, I was 100% truthful and factual, threw in a bit of humor, plus some documentation to back up my side. (I think the CHP officer never responded, so I won)

The one I lost...I tried the same thing...sort of, but didn't have the same valid excuse reasoning to back up my claim...plus, I think the CHP officer actually took time to respond.

Around here, you would spend more than that in Insurance surcharges. Not to mention, that uplift in your insurance would carry for several years before dropping off. So you pay for the "same" ticket again and again, instead of just the once.

So yeah - in NJ, the cop would have been doing you a favor. I keep an 'Illegal' licence plate cover on my car so the officer has the option to write me for something other than a moving violation.
