cigar falls out of mouth

Matches use fire,... as do lighters. So, is Bic a firearms manufacturer?!

picks up cigar and relights it

Did you forget about the second part of the word?

firearm

Do you consider lighters and matches to be arms? :hmm:

This is true of all words.

Now, it may be different in the UK, but in the US, air guns are definitely not classified as firearms.

Slave states like New Jersey treat air guns the same as firearms. This poor bastard narrowly avoided a felony conviction and lengthy mandatory prison sentence for the 'crime' of driving with an air pistol in his car.

That case prompted the state to selectively not enforce the law in certain cases, but not to bother fixing or repealing it. I'm sure they found the idea of arresting innocent subjects and forcing them to beg for mercy quite alluring.

I was listening to this gentleman from Lindenwood University from St Charles, MO (I think). His university has a Shotgun shooting team and they compete in the USA at competitions. His university has won the national title for like 11 years in a row.

This is actually the first time I have ever seen this advertised or discussed on the Radio.

Wrong. A Firearm is whatever your authorities say it is.

Federally, a firearm requires an explosive event. However, just the receiver is a firearm. So a piece of plastic can be a firearm.

a) As used in this chapter—
...
(3) The term "firearm" means
(A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to
or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an
explosive;

(B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon;
(C) any firearm muffler or firearm silencer; or
(D) any destructive device.
Such term does not include an antique firearm.

http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Definition_of_a_firearm/gun#Federal_law

In New Jersey, it is a bit different:

"Firearm or firearms" means any handgun, rifle, shotgun, machine gun, assault firearm, automatic or semi-automatic rifle, or any gun, device or instrument in the nature of a weapon from which may be fired or ejected any solid projectile, ball, slug, pellet, missile or bullet, or any gas, vapor or other noxious thing, by means of a cartridge or shell or by the
action of an explosive or the igniting of flammable or explosive substances. It shall also include, without limitation, any firearm which is in the nature of an air gun, spring gun or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas, or vapor, air or compressed air, or is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with sufficient force to injure a person.

There is something in the back of my mind telling me people just aren't meant to have "guns". I love shooting but its just not part of our culture.

That's because your people's culture was that of subjugation to the king and his court. They didn't want you to fight for yourselves, because they didn't want you to have any power.

That tingling sensation that you are doing something wrong was ingrained for generations of your ancestors. You feel as if harm will come to you...a peasant with power! The king wouldn't stand for such nonsense. Off to the gallows with you!

Here in AMERICA we give power to the individual. It's crazy, irresponsible, but dammit it's AMERICA! We been like that since we were born here (or moved here).

AMERICA is a state of mind man, we don't bow to no king, we bow to the power of personal freedom.

That is because the receiver is essentially housing the mechanism that makes the firearm work. Classifying all gun parts would be incredibly stupid, as a barrel on it's own is nothing put a tube of metal with no ability to perform and of the functions a 'firearm' would.

This is because NJ is stupid. However, I'd argue the "cause injury" is up to interpretation. An airsoft gun CAN cause injury, but it is highly unlikely. Same with a BB gun. However, a ballistic knife can easily cause injury, and is probably classified correctly as a firearm (even though it is entirely possible it is actually named in knife laws as being illegal, as it is in most states). There is also some grey area in certain pump action pellet rifles. I had one that could put down a large opossum with easy and have no doubt it would easily penetrate the skin and possibly cause internal damage if I shot a person. It was compared to a .22 at close range by more than a few people who messed around with it. Certainly, that would be classified as a firearm, even though it is fired via compressed air.

It's an air pistol? Still good for you and don't let the gun control idiots/leftists tell you to get rid of it.

Not to worry. We've got a whole generation here in the US wanting (no, demanding) to be serfs themselves to the political class. (And drag everyone else along in shakles with them.)

So no worries, eventually we'll get to that peasant mindset here too. (And were ahead of schedule in terms of quivering over firearms.)

To the fewer and fewer free-minded people, about the only thing more fucked up than willingly subjugating yourself to some psychopath dressed in a clown suit wearing a powrdered wig, is willingly subjugating yourself to the collection of bufoonish dimbulbs that make up our government 'elite'.

100 years ago having guns was no big deal in the UK. The idea that it's "not part of the culture" is a myth propogated by advocates of civilian disarmament.

I actually very much disagree. There is a shrinking subset of people who are anti-gun. Nowadays you really look like a fool if you start in on how guns are evil.

Most of these people are anti-gun because their leaders tell them that's what is best, not because they came up with it on their own.

Believe me, I hope you're right. (And not just about firearms, but the entire mentality of willing subjugation too many people are caught up in).

I am not talking about this thread. I am talking about leftists who he knows or just gun control idiots who want to ban guns.

Nobody wants to "ban" guns. We just want to keep them out of the hands of idiots like yourself.

Insane people shouldn't have guns. Children shouldn't have guns. Criminals shouldn't have guns.

If you disagree with this post, YOU shouldn't have a gun.

STFU. Still angry that you're a leftist moron? Who disagrees with that? Criminals shouldn't have guns yet your piece of crap obama wanted to arm the Syrian jihadists. At least be consistent but then again you're a typical liberal.

Also there are leftist scumbags who want to ban all guns.
