Probably not too much (I say that now, heh) - I may hold onto this for a couple years until the '09's come down in price.

I do need to replace the motor mounts - for about twice the cost of the stock ones, I could get these, but I'm not sure it's worth the additional vibration/etc.

Are you going to replace the mounts yourself? Is it a pretty easy job? Any plans on doing the 'new to you' upkeep stuff? (trans/diff fluid, brake flush, etc etc etc x10)

I have no idea on the mounts (seller quoted $600 from his mechanic, parts & labor) - I'm completely new to GM vehicles and American V8's in general. The maintenance schedule I found so far seems pretty straight-forward (link) - I'll pull the manual out and go through that as well.

I have a stack of records in the glove box, and the gentleman I purchased it from had it parked in his driveway next to a 550hp AMG. He had bought it from his father about a year ago with the intention of turning it into a race car, but had too many projects and decided to sell it. The g-meter has .85 and .88 stored, so someone somewhere had fun!

He also had the rear diff bushings replaced the morning of the day I bought the car; I get the feeling it has been taken care of incredibly well. I can still hardly believe I got it for $12k.

It can't be worse than a rear-engine MR2. Just make sure you have plenty of Imperial tools.

first suggestion is to black out the front chrome like my buddy did:

congrats! I'm jealous!! I like my xterra.....but the V would be awesome except when there is snow on the ground

Don't bother with the stock MM, they break down all the time. I bought mine in March (it's a CPO'd '07), and one of the things they did was change the MM's as well, they were leaking. There are some poly mm's that should get you close to stock vibration damping but last longer. These guys http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-cts-v-series-forum-2004/ are up on the go fast parts when you're ready to modify the car. It's a fun car!

I'm a totally useless mechanic, and I always reach for imperial sizes first because I can make a better judgement of size thinking in SAE.

But every time I can't find the right size, I have to remember that most of the stuff on our (Ford and Chevy) trucks seems to actually be metric. TBH, I assumed it was actually all metric.

Is the 5.7L Z06 motor better than the 6.0L in these.

What is the consensus?

IMO, the 6.0L (LS2) is a superior motor as it improved on the LS1 and is very similar to the current LS3. The LS2 would take to power adders better, but had a shorter time at market so it's not as common. However, the LS6 is a good motor and I would be happy with it as well.
