i guess until it happens to you, then you really have no idea how it feels. this is going to ruin my whole week and i'll be losing much needed sleep.

Don't get a gun. You run the risk of hurting yourself or having the wrong person find it (or hesitating and having an intruder turn it on you, it's not as easy to take a life as you think it would be, even if they are in your house). That's a knee-jerk reaction that could come back to bite you in the face horribly. You'd do a much better job of home security with a good baseball bat and a few pushups a night to guarantee maximum stopping power if someone breaks in.

The cameras are an ok idea, I guess, but the dog would be an excellent addition to your family.

i just like the cameras idea. nothing is better than having the footage on tape.

now i don't know what to do?! If it was someone I know, then do I avoid all my friends and not even associate with them just on asumption they did it??

How did the robber get into your house? Was the sliding door unlocked? Or a window?

Call up Brinks home security, have them wire you up.

You don't need to disassociate with all your friends over this, we were just speculating that if the house was completely locked when you left, and still locked when you came back... If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck, etc.

Go with a home security if it makes you feel better than. If you get ADT or something like that, your insurance will probably be cheaper too.

Who are you talking about? The OP broke up the first post just fine. You want cliffs notes: read the title of the thread.

Of course you dont break ties with all your friends. It was just a passing thought. We were robbed when I was younger and later it was found out that it was in fact someone that called themselves a "friend."

Most common sliding doors are NOT safe even if they are locked. If there is enough room you are able to lift up the door and take it off the lock, I found that out when I locked myself out. Cheapest fix is to get a a piece of wood and just put it on the bottom to block the door from sliding at all or just drill a hole where the center parts of the door meet up and insert a metal rod into the hole.

That sucks. The way you describe it makes it seem like it's a small-timer/kid (only robbed one room). That being said, a small-timer wouldn't mess with a locked house, so something must have been unlocked/open.

Paranoid much? Cameras sounds to me like a complete waste of money. Purchasing, installing, upkeep. And do you think burglars just walk into houses, turn on all the lights, and walk around looking directly at the cameras?

If you are that worried about it happening again (which is extremely unlikely) go with a home security system.

Change your locks, get a security system, don't keep large amounts of cash on your person or in your home, and buy a gun (along with this)

Get a gun and another xbox. Put the xbox in the same place. Leave your door slightly open, and hide behind curtains. When the punks come back to steal your 2nd xbox, you fill them with holes.

More likely, this was an inside job and someone you know. This does not sound like the job a random burlgar would pull
