I'm flying to see a good friend in a few weeks and I'm scared to death. I've never been afraid of planes until September 11th. You know that feeling like you're in trouble and you're just waiting for your dad to get home... I feel that way every time I think about it. I got my tickets from Priceline, and I didn't feel weird about it until I saw... "CONGRATULATIONS! YOUR BID WAS ACCEPTED!" I was like, "oh God, I have to get on a plane!" Yikes! Please help. Say something nice. Share good plane experiences with me. If you make fun of me, I will seriously cry. :)

BTW, going to Oklahoma City. Anything good to see?

:)

As trite as this will sound you should be more afraid of the trip to the airport than the flight itself. Just take a good book and relax and enjoy the flight.

you'll be fine!!! heres what you do: start reading a good book before you leave, get well into it, maybe close to the end. then, get on the plane, get a drink, and start reading. if you're really into the book, the flight will be over before you know it. do it everytime i fly, and i am always shocked at how fast the flight goes by!

I flew to ohio a little over a month after Sept 11, on our way up there was a huge amount of turbulence, the cabin was shaking around like hell, a lot of people started freaking out. It was very cool. ;)

I have flown a few times since Sept. 11th, and there were no problems at all. Just be patient at the airport, as the security lines are longer than you will remember.

I've been on 10 flights since september 11 and I'm still alive. In fact in more than 6 months since it happened not a single plane has been bombed out of the many thousands that have flown. The chances of you dying are extremely slim.

i've flown cross country many times & i've seen people deal with their anxieties in the following ways:
1. drink - have a couple before boarding.
2. white-knuckle it - close eyes & grip arm rests
3. get rosary & pray
4. talk, talk, talk nervously.

it's probably best to talk it over with someone you trust before the flight.

I flew October 4th, then again October 10th. From Oregon to California and back. I was fine. Things are good. Things are okay. You'll be okay. :)

With the increased security, you're safer now than before 9/11. Allow plenty of time, don't take any scissors, nail clippers, knives, etc. with you (if you must take any stuff like that, check your bag instead of carrying it on), wear good socks in case you get selected for a more detailed search. Be patient, sometimes there a long lines. If you allowed extra time, you won't be stressed.

It will be fine, just relax! I've flown 12 times since 9/11. No problems. The only people I've seen who had any trouble were the assholes who didn't think the rules applied to them.

everytime i've flown on an airplane, we've been hijacked, crashed, and i died a horrible death.

;)

your flight would probably not be hijacked anyways, florida to OK.. not that much fuel.

think of it this way, you have a better chance of being struck by lighting TWICE than dying in a plane crash. more people are killed in donkey accidents then die on a plane each year.

you'll be fine...just have a couple drinks before you leave ;)

and a few more on the plane... and one to toast the end of your trip when you get off. Seriously, if you're thinking about something else (drinks, games, puzzles, music, etc), the time on the plane goes by much faster, too. Flirt with the stewardesses or something. :)

don't be a sissy, grab youself a maxim to read on the way there...

also, most of the crashes happens on the first 10-15 minutes of the flight...so keep that in mind...

grab your seat and pray until the time is passed

you'll be fine, and you'll look back at this time in a few years and chuckle.

Remember to breathe, and lay off the caffiene. buy a little handheld game or something that you can lose yourself in during the flight. Don't worry about sounds or vibrations during the flight. Planes are Noisy, and while they are built to be very strong, they are also designed to be flexible. Sit at the front of the plane if you can, they tend to be less noisy.

Because I said I'd cry?

I'm not of that variety.

Do you think if I start talking to the people next to me they'll think I'm weird? If I start talking, I'll be so nervous. They'll probably think I'm up to something... like I had "terrorist connections" or something!

You'll be fine. :)

My first time on a plane was definately an experience. I was terrified, lol. It really messed up my senses though. I felt like I was moving backwards. :Q

I don't mind flying, it is the landing that I don't like.

I have taken off a lot but have only landed with the plane about 30 or 40 times. All the other times the plane landed without me.

I usually try to sleep on the plane........ The nice vibration and steady noise is awesome.....

I read a statistic the other day that said in any given hour, there are approximately 60,000 people in the air over America. 60,000 people have landed safely every hour since Sept 11. I was a little scared the first month or so afterwards, but not at all now. My cousin was killed in a car accident on March 15th. Hundreds of people have died in car wrecks each month since Sept 11. How many have died from airplane travel? I wish I could fly everywhere I needed to go. Much safer than driving.
