I am SO scared :(

PS - Stop and see the memorial in OK City. I stopped there in early September, and was in shock at how horrible it was for 160 people to die in one explosion. I had no idea of what was to come just days later. It's weird how 160 people dying was the worst tragedy we had seen in a while. Yet, more than that were killed just in the Pentagon, which gets little media attention.

Allow plenty of time, don't take any scissors, nail clippers, knives, etc. with you (if you must take any stuff like that, check your bag instead of carrying it on), wear good socks in case you get selected for a more detailed search. Be patient, sometimes there a long lines. If you allowed extra time, you won't be stressed. >>



Very good advise.

Last week I flew to Washington D.C. Actually, we flew into BWI and drove to D.C. - tickets were cheaper. Make sure that you don't have anything metallic on you when you go through the metal detector. If you do then they "wand" you and search your bag. That happened to me once. If you don't set off the metal detector, you go right through unless you get picked as a random search - in my experience. And by all means, never leave your bag unattended. I saw a guy get the royal treatment (had to take his shoes and belt off and completely empty his bags) when he left his bag unattended.

I was not necessarily nervous but more alert as to my surroundings. I doubt you'll have any problems. Try to have a nice trip.🙂
 
the worse thing about flying now vs. before 9-11 is taking off your shoes at the airport, no big deal 🙂

Seriously though, ive flown twice since 9/11 and its been fine. I was a little nervous at first but everything turned out fine.
 
Bah, after you remove your shoes, take off your belt and dance like a puppet for security you will realize that no terrorist would bother with an airport these days. Too much effort, just jack a propane truck and set it off and you'll get a better effect than any plane would ever give you.
 
Ah, well in that case 😉 don't worry about it. The last thing you should thing about is terrorism. I've been flying regularly since Sept 11, and am still around. Just flew back here on Friday and other than a hotshot pilot who landed at way too high a speed, its was normal. The national guard didn't mess with me, and security hasn't been that much of a hassle. You have nothing to be scared of, if you get nervous, have a few drinks on the plane and get some sleep. 😀

well, one thing that really comforted me the first time that I thought about it (this may or may not apply in your situation) was that the plane that I regularly fly on (American Airlines DFW-Midway) is a POS Fokker F100 (motherfokker! did you know they were still around?! They built the Red Baron's plane!!! :Q) and there's NO WAY any hijacker would know how to hijack that flight. The flights on 9/11 were all 767s or 757s. Of course, it's not like the terrorists are going to try anything with planes again IMO. They've already done that, and it's something that we expect now. No, I think the next time terrorists hit the U.S., it's going to be something different.... I have no idea what "different" is (I wish I did -- I'd avoid it!!) but I think that they won't go for the air any more.

Also, think about it. There are many, many risks in life. Do you stay up all night because you're worried you're going to die in your sleep? Do you stay in your house because you don't want to be shot in a random drive-by? Do you not ride in a car/train/bike/boat because of the chance of an accident? I mean, at one point you have to look at your life and weigh the risks involved in doing your everyday tasks, and just get over it. It's not worth it to suppress your lifestyle because of some meager risk. Live your life to the fullest, and don't worry about the bad things that might happen and over which you have no control. It's all in the hands of God (this coming from a non-religious person).
