Its' funny you should say that, I'm guessing about the f16 comment. Because when I was in colorado I had cell signal at 14,000+ ft at the peak of a remote mountain. It was odd but I was able to make a few calls, it was hard to hear with the ~30mph wind but it worked.

This. Isn't it illegal to text and drive where you live? If so there is a good reason for that and if not it should be.
