a registered sex offender. Lives right across the street from my family. Acording to the megans law website he has prior convictions for lewd acts with children under 14. Fellas this really really troubles me. I have two kids both under the age of ten. I literally see this guy every day.

Anything I can do? Now that I know this information thats GREAT, but it kind of makes me feel helpless.

Megans law check it out

I'd be worried, but I wouldn't be parranoid; im not saying you are because you certainly are within yourself to be as worried as you are.

I dont think theres anything you can do really. Im pretty sure a registerd sex offender has to tell everyone around him that he is one when he moves into a certain place, did he do that when he moved in? Or was he convicted after he moved in? Either way your property value just went down alot.

i'd have the "don't talk to strangers" talk with the kids one more time and maybe add that they shouldn't go into their neighbor's houses unless they ask you first, no exceptions.

yes I suppose there just isnt a whole lot that can be done but D@mn its downright frustrating and scary.

there are 42 in my zip code...

uh oh did the ATOT effect just kill th website...why didnt I think of that!!

That's a average number. There's 39 in mine. Two of them are "high risk".

I was thinking 42 was high....its avg??

I dont own a gun, hell yes we have been planning on moving for a while.

I guess I outta train the dog to sic balls!!

:disgust:

Quick search only showed 4 for my zip code.

I would have expected more, on the other hand, another zip code some of my in-laws/wife is from revealed 73.

Scary eh.

hmm, if 42 is average thats insane...

I tried to check mine but the texas database is offline tonight for maintence. It should be up by 6am.

Talk to the guy. Seriously. Either go the route of not bringing up his track record and just sort of befriending the guy (so he is now no longer the ignored creepy neighbor), or go the route of directly confronting him about it and telling him to stay away. Either way, you're bringing him out in to the open, meaning he'd be less likely to do anything.

Of course, this could backfire...

You can be put on the list for sexual harrasment....very minor sexual offenses, not necessairly rape or whatnot will land you on the list.

he is a friendly guy....says hello and stuff.

but now things kinda change dont it? I do wish the site was a little more descriptive in the actual offenses....

I am thinking of talkin to him about it.

Sit on your porch and clean your guns and make sure he sees you doing it.

Go by the common rule of thumb: Do unto him what you would do unto Michael Jackson

id say neither, actually. if you make friends with him, thats an opening to hang around your kids more. if you alienate him, then hes pissed at you and can make trouble in a variety of ways. id say just be friendly when you see him, but dont initiate more contact than you have to. and dont forget to clean your guns.
