Dammit! I went and looked up my area and a child molester lives a couple houses down from my brother and his 4yo boy. This fvcking pisses me off!

Thanks to the OP for bringing the subject up.

57 in my zip code. Yay.

95 in mine.

Edit: actually, that isn't accurate. It includes those in the surrounding zip codes. In my specific zip i have 16.

There are 13 offenders living in ONE apartment complex near downtown phoenix. :Q

It's sick some of the things these people have done.
I just saw a man, who lives in my area code, born in 1919 who sexually assaulted a 9 yo girl in 2002.
I mean, come on wtf? They did give him 40 years, but he is out on parole.

There are too many ways to get on that list for what you may consider innnocuous events. Becareful in jumping to conclusions but you have the knowledge now to warn your children to avoid him and report any unusual behavior to you. Let me reiterate, you DO NOT KNOW WHAT HE DID, so don't judge him for being on a blanket list with inflamatory headings.

Damn, there are 52 in my zip code. 🙁 Luckily only one of them lives on a street close enough to mine to make me concerned. And I don't know the guy...

I agree totally, again he is a nice guy... says hello and does the neighbors lawn for free..stuff like that.

It just seems like I need to let him know that I know..ya know?

my daughter is going to get a talking to on this subject. Do I tell my neighbors? The family that lives two doors down needs to know too, I think I am going to tell them. And maybe the ones kitty-corner to us across the street.

Or do I just not say anything? I got all day to think about it now... Im at work.

Well, the way I see it you have two options.

1) Stay in that house and never let your kids be around this guy when there's nobody else around.
2) Move.

I checked my neighborhood and there are a few within 3/4 mile of my house but none in my immediate neighborhood.

Edit-I was amazed that they give you the guy's name, address and a picture of him along with the sex crimes he was convicted for.

I checked the GBI website here in GA, I have about 20 RSOs around my neighborhood. Most of them have some sort of child related act against them. the only thing you can do is love your kids, do the best you can as a parent in teaching them what to lookout for, and make sure that your kids know that they can tell you anything.

You cannot smother them because of what "might" happen.

There is nothing wrong with telling your neighbors. I would inform them, warn your children (in a way not to scare the living hell out of them), and let him know, that you know about his past. After that, if he does go back to his ways, he probably wouldn't targer your children since your aware of his past, and he knows it.

All the more reason to work harder, and buy a house in a "safer" neighborhood. In the meantime, tell your kids not to talk to strangers (e.g., man living across the street) and to be extra wary about their surroundings...

Well i dont think there is anything you can do about him. You could however educate your kids about the situation to help keep them safe.

This makes me *really* glad I live in a apt. complex that requires a background check before they rent to you. Not to mention, I'm right down the street from a school. My kid is definitely going to learn not to talk to anyone he doesn't know if I've got anything to say about it....

The place I lived in before had 50 bazillion registered sex offenders flagged on the map in the area (this was a borderline ghetto). Although, as people have already pointed out, you can get tagged as a sex offender for relatively minor stuff, not just for serious offenses like molesting a 4 year old boy or something.

I think you can get tagged as a sex offender for UIP.

That's urinating in public...

Because your "exposing yourself."
