moving back in January. pretty excited, yet kinda heartbroken. my relationship with my girlfriend will end, which sucks, because we're great together. she can't move with me because she has a daughter who she can neither take nor leave.

Has she talked to the ex to see if arrangements can be made for the child to go out of state?

He didnt mean PG County in Va... I know where you are talking about

Prince George's County in Md is very very very corrupt... See Jack Jackson

Southern Md isnt bad..... Hell where I live in Southern Md, there is plenty to do, salaries are great, and NAVAIR is based out of here.... it brought hundreds of thousands of jobs to Pax River...

Shit they are bringing 60k+ plus more.....

Taxes are going to be high anyways they will rack you over the coals....

I travel to places like Phx, Tampa, SanDog, Houston, Detroit, Buffalo, i wouldnt ever want to live in those places...

i know he meant pg county in md, which is primarily a shithole just like richmond is in va.

$60k+ isn't what i would consider a great salary around here, but i'm sure the cost of living is lower down in southern md.

welcome back, Maryland is great. I lived most of my life on the western shore, we just moved to the eastern shore (KI, just over the bridge) and we love it. I love being so close to the water.

Oh please, Virginia nickles and dimes you in all kinds of ways as well. Car tax anyone? How about the insane ($1,000+) speeding fines they tried to issue a few years ago? Northern VA traffic also makes me want to slit my wrists. Maryland is flawed but it's absurd to pretend that VA is some sort of example of awesomeness.

RE: car tax, MD's upfront costs are downright gouging just to get license plates. They make you pay everything up front. For example, it's $400~ for MD plates. VA tax is $25-50 year for me, so it'd take 8-16 years to equal the cost of MD plates alone. So yeah, VA in the long run will be a little more but with present value of money taken into account, the breakeven with MD is 10-20 years. I.e. a non-issue when factoring in true property/sales/business/retiree tax. If this really was an issue then VA would be much higher/on par with MD on worst state tax lists.

The draconian traffic fines and red light cams were veto'd, so you're talking about a temporary thing that happened in the past. VA legislature isn't nuts.

NOVA traffic, I agree, it's crazy but Northern MD is just as bad. Anywhere in this area is going to be bad. Southern VA and MD are about the same, traffic is fine.

Really the only pet peeve I have is VA starting the Amazon tax in Fall 2013. But every state, including MD, will soon be doing that.

Back in the 80's; I was assigned to Southern Md working at NESEA.

Auto registration costs were expensed :) but I still had to bring the vehicle up to snuff; Replace a relay that controlled emergency flashers. Originally, passed the base inspection by tapping on the brake pedal when asked to activate the flashers. Luckily, they did not look at the front flashers.

don't you have to get your car inspected fairly regularly in va too?

oh and the 495 express lanes are the worst idea in the history of the driving area. i can't stand driving on 495 in va around tysons corner and stuff now because of all the construction. and the metro construction at tysons ... don't wanna even get started about that crap lol.

but in general traffic around this whole area DC/MD/VA wherever you are SSUUCCKKSSS!!!

Yea, it's great. I was worried about bridge traffic at first but I've got other friends that live over here and commute to the western shore. 9 times out of 10 the traffic is on 50 in Annapolis, not the bridge. It's definitely worth it.

Yeah once a year for VA. MD it depends on the county, I know in SOMD some counties only require an inspection once which is kind of scary. But overall most normal places require annual testing and that's not a bad thing.

Inspections in Maryland are regulated by the state, not the counties. Emissions inspections are annual but safety inspection is a one time thing. VA's annual inspections are an invitation for repair shops to rip you off.

ive never heard of anywhere in md requiring an inspection once you have the car registered.

and it doesn't matter if its a good or bad thing, just countering your whole md nickle/dimes to drive but va doesn't.

There is a thread I made years ago involving some bullshit that happened to me while driving in Virginia... got two tickets at the same time. Can't find it, though...

Want to buy a house on the Eastern Shore? $50,000.00 and it's yours, 50 minutes from OC.
