Friend left a cd in my car and I popped it in to just give it a listen. Here's the thing though, these songs are emotional and have meaning I can relate to. Not some millionare rich kid putting on a raspy voice and singing about how much his life sucks.

Country is awesome 😛 😛 😛

It actually has meaning (mostly emotional) whereas rock is just artists ranting about life, how theirs is terrible, and how it is terrible as a whole.

That's typically classified as "pop" country. That's also what you hear the most of on the radio.

Bluegrass country is the older style... I hate it.

It is older, but it's also a different style. There is also older country similar to the popular country of today, just older. Bluegrass / fiddle tunes are more related to scots/irish type of music from those original areas.
 
country music is pretty good if you can ignore all the crap (99% of the songs you'd hear on a country radio station... Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, whoever does that "Redneck Woman" song, etc...)

You're right... I've just found that a lot of people that like older country also like bluegrass.
 
Find yourself a station that plays some older country music. , 80's and older. Most of the stuff nowadays doesn't compare to the classics.
 
I hear a tune or two when I have the TV on fixing dinner or when I'm about to watch something else.

I actually found a few artists I liked enough to listen to on Napster since I'm paying for it anyway:

Alison Krauss (easy on the eyes too 🙂 )
Tift Merritt ( " )
Gary Allan - Smoke Rings in the Dark cd

and I've been a Lyle Lovett and Cowboy Junkies fan for ages, but they're more mainstream.

I'd say overall at least 1% of my music listening is country 🙂

Haha, like Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, or any of the others don't live in huge multi-million dollar houses...

I don't mind some country music (and lets face it, Faith Hill and Shania Twain help make up for some of it with just their looks), but most of it I utterly despise.

There's one in particular I think I wouldn't mind if I never heard anything from or about again, I think Toby Keith maybe? Its the guy who does/did the Ford truck commercials and tries to make it sound like he's being all patriotic when he's really just reinforcing the world's opinion that America is a bunch of illiterate overweight a-holes. Words can't express how much I dislike him.

I agree, C&W music is adult music concerned about adult issues It is not about adolescence angst. But I still do not like the nasal sound that is dominant in Country music.
