Are you kidding me? You think hardly any country music singer can relate to what they sing about?

Haha, like Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, or any of the others don't live in huge multi-million dollar houses...

And that really matters because... ?

Oh, and not all country fans like Tobey Keith either... he likes to stir everything up.

I was just pointing that out since the OP said that they weren't just rich kids whining about how their life sucks.
Yeah I know, but for some reason I can relate to it more than, say, Lincoln Park screaming madly about how they're about to break because they're one step closer to the edge.

Most new country makes me want to dig my eyes out.
Every now and then a song comes along that grabs me. My wife is a die hard country music lover, and she's even grown tired of the lack of originality.
I enjoy Hank Jr., Willy and some old bluegrass.
In new stuff, I enjoyed My Maria-Brooks and Dunn and Should Have Been a Cowboy-Toby Keith. Those two tunes showed some originality and even some talent. 🙂

I have been forced to listen to country music throughout junor high and high school and I have grown to hate it so very much. Its instrumentally un-original, dumbed down lyrics, no bass just treble and that super annoying twang sound (you know what I am talking about), most of the singers are not so swift in the head, reoccurring theme in songs, etc... I'm sorry but country is right up there in terms of horrible music with Emo.

I think a helluva lot more people would listen to country music if they didn't hear one annoying song, and automatically categorize all other country music with that one song they didn't like. I find country music very inspirational at times, has some of the best messages found in any genre of music (Garth Brooks - "The Dance" for example), and you won't find any superstars, ala Britney, that are only famous because they are hot, and don't have vocal talent. And there are lots of country songs I do NOT like, even from artists I really enjoy, just the same way you won't like every pop song on a radio station either.

If you don't like vocals in music, and you have to have bass to enjoy music, then country is perhaps not for you. But if you give country an honest chance, listen to female/male artists, and a bunch of songs, I'd bet it'd be hard to find someone that couldn't at least find a few "country" songs they enjoyed. Though there are always those types that only like ONE type of music, like metal, rap, etc. I myself like almost everything to some extent, some more than others.

I'll add, that I think country music has a stigma attached to it (which I bought into it when I was younger, and just look at the first post by the OP) that it's not hip to listen to (though nowhere near as much as it used to), and that it's a bunch of illiterate hicks with missing teeth writing/singing the music. I'm sure there's a few of them, but most of them are talented artists deserving of admiration for their abilities. Most all of em seem like nice people too, not that that has anything to do why I enjoy the music though.

Update from the last time I posted in this thread.

Country still horrible excuse for music. That is all.

I think you need help too. 🙁
Edit: And I even live in Texas 😛
LOL

Friend left a cd in my car and I popped it in to just give it a listen. Here's the thing though, these songs are emotional and have meaning I can relate to. Not some millionare rich kid putting on a raspy voice and singing about how much his life sucks.

Yeah... instead, it's some millionaire putting on a twangy voice and singing about dead dogs, broken hearts, and whiskey. MUCH better!

The most common thing I hear form country fans is "At least its not like <insert generic type of music or band here>"

Please. There are more types of music then "rock" or "rap". Jesus people, get some taste in music and expand your horizons.

At least it's actually music unlike most rap.

I can relate to it more than, say, Lincoln Park screaming madly about how they're about to break because they're one step closer to the edge.

Not some millionare rich kid putting on a raspy voice and singing about how much his life sucks.

It actually has meaning (mostly emotional) whereas rock is just artists ranting about life, how theirs is terrible, and how it is terrible as a whole.

Generalize all other music much?

*shudder*

Yeah, you'll get into it for a while, but after a couple of weeks you'll realize it all sounds the same, and it's all too damned BLAND.

Country is awesome 😛 😛 😛

Bah...

<--- likes electronica, smooth jazz, rock (not this new crap they make nowadays, but real "rock"), '80s "new wave", gothic (Sisters of Mercy, Clan of Xymox, etc)...

but NOT country

Smooth jazz? SMOOTH JAZZ? 😕 You really don't have room to talk bad about a musical genre there, kido.

As for country, yes there is a lot of good stuff out there. Pop country sucks super monkey balls, but "Pop" anything these days is utter crap. I would suggest getting into "Americana," it's new country/folk with an alternative edge. Download then buy a Gillian Welch cd.

country music is pretty good if you can ignore all the crap (99% of the songs you'd hear on a country radio station... Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Tim McGraw, whoever does that "Redneck Woman" song, etc...)

What you don't like Gretchen Wilson? Shania Twain isn't country. She sings pop music. Faith Hill used to sing country music but became a pop singer. Tim McGraw is a country singer and so is Gretchen.

Country singers I'll listen to:
Emmy Lou Harris
Graham Parsons
Hank Williams
Johnny Cash
Loretta Lynn
Some of the Dixie Chicks stuff (though not much)
Patsy Cline
Gillian Welch
And a few others.

I don't mind some country music (and lets face it, Faith Hill and Shania Twain help make up for some of it with just their looks), but most of it I utterly despise.

There's one in particular I think I wouldn't mind if I never heard anything from or about again, I think Toby Keith maybe? Its the guy who does/did the Ford truck commercials and tries to make it sound like he's being all patriotic when he's really just reinforcing the world's opinion that America is a bunch of illiterate overweight a-holes. Words can't express how much I dislike him.

Toby Keith is a fantastic singer and what's wrong with being Patriotic? Some how I don't think France's or this "world's" opinion is based upon what Toby Keith sings. Do you really think they are as shallow as you? I would think most people form opinions based on what the military does or what the polititian's say and not what a country singer sings.

Keith makes Americans and southerners, especially, look like ignorant, racist buffoons.
