I am done with College Football

I LOVE the way that College Football works. It makes the regular season, ALL of it, a playoff game each week. The NFL format with 4 x 4 team divisions in each conference allows too many bad teams to get into the playoffs too easily.

This is the biggest BS pro-BCS argument there is. There was plenty of talk about a 1 loss Florida still having a chance for the NC a few weeks ago - even over undefeated teams. And the way the BCS point system works, it could have happened. That, alone, shows the nonsense of your argument.

Yep TCU, UC, BSU goes undefeated and they do not have a chance at the title.

Last year UF and OU lose one game during the regular season which is proclaimed to be "a playoff" where as Utah goes undefeated and gets left out the title game. Utah was the only undefeated team last season.

Yep the regular season is a "playoff game each week" alright.

The problem with the BCS is that teams are more scared than ever to schedule good games outside of their conference slate. The formula is simple for the well known top teams (UF, OU, UT, USC, etc.) that start near the top of the preseason polls based on reputation: win out and you'll get to the title game. Don't schedule any hard games; and if your conference is weak that year even better for you. This actually hurts the regular season more than helps it with less quality games.

Agreed.

Cinci has beaten 3 Top 25 teams compared to two for Texas. Cinci has beaten 7 top 50 teams compared to 4, maybe 5 for Texas. Yet, Texas gets the shot at the NC. It's disgusting and I'm not even a Cinci fan.

hmmm, media bias FOR the BCS? All I ever hear is we need a playoff system...

I agree that the TCU vs BSU matchup sucks.

I would be in favor of a plus one system though. It would not detract from the regular season, and force the big schools (and little ones too) to play one more decent non-conference game.

Ahem, there were 5 undefeated teams this year. A Plus 1 system would still leave someone out. Stop believing the nonsense of the BCS.

And other conferences/schools are not doing the very same thing? Let see, just pick out a few teams.

Ohio State (Big 10) = Toledo, New Mexico State

Texas (Big 12) = Louisiana Monroe, UCF

Georgia Tech (ACC) = Jacksonville State

VT (ACC) = Marshall

TCU (Mountain West) = Texas State

and so on....SEC is not the only conference that plays "easy" out of conference schedule.

you forgot to mention that VT also played nebraska and alabama. they also were one of the the ONLY schools not to play a d2 school..

also we already sched boise next year... and as a i fan i would rather play big games..

i would rather watch a vt vs lsu game and lose than watch a vt vs middle tenn state and win by 50.

oh. im a fan of either. playoffs or bcs. doesnt matter to me. as long as college football is on i am happy.

Most alumni will watch their alma mater regardless of the BCS.

I never really understand why people compare college football to professional sports. The NCAA was established for students, alumni and family, not for outsiders.

Maybe you are right, maybe College Football isn't for me (at least without a playoff) since I am not affiliated with any big time college football schools in any fashion.

You are right, let's not compare college football (D-IA) with any other sports, let's compare it with every other sport in every other division including all other classifications of football in the NCAA. They all have a playoff system.

CPA, you usually have better posts than that. See here:

Texas beat 2 of the 2 top 30 teams it played. Cincinnati beat 3 of the 3 it played. There really isn't THAT much of a difference. If you include all teams, Texas' schedule was ranked #44 hardest and Cincinnati's schedule was ranked #63. Cincinnati really didn't play a very difficult schedule. Their claim to fame is that they beat two 3-loss teams and a couple of 4-loss teams. That isn't very impressive.

Its kinda sickening to think of the rosebowl game without USC in it. Oh well rebuilding sucks. Hope Alabama/Texas turns out as good as the last NC game in the Rose Bowl

I don't know why people are whining about which undefeated team will go to the NCG. Why ruin your perfect season by playing Bama? 😛

and LSU played both Bama and Florida year in and year out (last time I checked, Bama and Florida ranked higher than Nebraska). SEC is strong, 10 schools will go to a bowl this year, not sure any other conference can do that or better.

LSU did play VT a while back. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see big school vs big school but we all know that it won't happen for a while.

Oh please. Tenn almost beat Bama (if not for the SEC refs) which lost to UCLA which is a middle of the road Pac-10 team.

I rooted so hard for Nebraska to win the Big XII title game just because I want to see the BCS blown up.

wait, so it didn't go your way and it worked itself out... despite that, you still are 'done with college football'? sounds like you're quitting and taking the ball home with you.

perhaps the next best thing is BCS + 1

That was just an example of how much I want a playoff to happen, I root for things that "may" help that. In all honesty it probably wouldn't matter with the people in charge. Nothing against UT. I rooted for LSU in the SEC championship back in 2001, but Nebraska still ended up in the title game and they got blasted in the Big XII title game that year. They got smoked by Miami though in the Orange Bowl BCS title game. LSU winning and causing "BCS anarchy" didn't help much did it?

Also isn't "quitting" continuing to support something I don't believe in? What else am I suppose to do to voice my dissent? Quitting to me would be "oh well even though I don't agree with the system I'll continue to contribute to their pot with my $$$". Feel free to correct me.

And how exactly did the refs give Bama the game? Don't bring up Terrence Cody taking his helmet off because even if a flag was thrown the ball still would have been given to Alabama. Tennessee would not have rekicked.

Every team that competes for a national championship has one or two extremely close games. I see it every year. Hell, Tennessee needed the Arkansas QB literally setting the ball down on the turf for them to compete for the national championship the year they won it.

Yes agree, I'd quit 'regardless' of the outcome, because of the forgone conclusion that they weren't going to change the system months ago after the BCS meeting.

Yep unless the government gets involved (which I don't want happening) nothing is going to change until 2014 when the current TV contract changes. Even then probably nothing will happen.

I'm a UT fan and we did not lose because of the refs. We lost because our former coach forgot he could put a real kicker on scholarship

That's a poor argument. It's all about money. They only get that many bowls only because of money. BCS is geared that way unfortunately. That's why it needs to be done away with. Doesn't matter about strength. I bet plenty of people would disagree about the SEC deserving 10 bowls. They don't. Says you're from Southern USA... you're not biased at all! lol gtfo
