This is why I'm happy to no longer be working for small/medium sized businesses.

As a customer I can tell you that nothing would offend me more than some greedy company sending an obviously ill, germ spreading person to my home to setup my equippment. We've had enough sickness here this winter,we don't need to pay to have it delivered to our door.

Your manager is an idiot.

What if I rolled up in Der Wagen, complete with swastikas and a megaphone? That wouldn't offend you more? :D

Where do you get 15 working days? I said since Jan 2007. I work on average 4.5 days a week with us being open 362 days a year. That equals ~245 working days (including the first part of this year) of which I have missed 4 days or 1.6%

if this was day 240, i can see your point, but you missed 4 days within the first 15 days of the year. how many more days are you going to miss this year?

while the boss is being an a-hole, i can see his point. i assume he doesn't know your record sicne you said he was new. right now to him it looks like you're a chronic call-off person.

What does your company handbook say about sick time?
I know in Illinois, it is illegal for a company over 50 ee's (might be all companies) to inquire about sick time off work. All I have to do is say "I didn't feel well enough to come into work." They can't inquire about it or anything (my VP is a tool and makes snide comments, then I make a point of coughing in front of him and not covering my mouth.....he gets the point then).

After 3 days out of the office for sick time, I need a doc note (ever notice doc notes never state why you are out - HIPAA).
Next time tell your boss it is illegal for him to inquire into you taking a sick day off work and go to your HR department.

Um, reading comprehension ftw?
He's missed four days since starting in January 2007. Being that this is January 2008, he's missed 4 days in about a year, not the first 15 days of this year.

Take it to your HR department and let them know your manager is harassing you for taking a sick day which you are clearly allowed to do per the HR policy and that you have been threatened with being written up if you take another sick day.

Screw that guy. You can find other jobs, but you only get one body so take care of it. Some people really need to get their priorities straight.

In all honesty, you've missed 6 days already THIS YEAR. Not a good impression at all.

You might want to read up on the little boy who cried wolf.

I guess people just aren't used to the whole 2008 thing or just don't feel like reading your post. You've had 6 sick days since 2007, 3 of them this year. 2 of those days were a result of an on-the-job accident. If you were not responsible for the accident, you're in the clear there. Which means you've got a single "unexcused" absence for this year.

Technically, those 2 for the ribs were late-ish december so its only 1 this year so far but now I am just being picky ;)
