made Applejack. I have a crappy fridge/freezer with one thermostat between them, and the freezer wasn't freezing so I turned it to maximum. Then my cider (in the fridge section) froze solid. My first clue that something was amiss came when the cap came off and it started bubbling over, all over my desk. It has stopped now, and I'm seriously considering microwaving this mofo, though I think all the alcohol already bubbled out. What's the worst that could happen?

Why would you microwave it? The worst that would happen is you end up with some warm, low-alcohol cider, unless you're microwaving it in an aluminum can or something, in which case you should film it.

Bad news, you didn't make applejack. Freeze distillation only works if you start with something with alcohol in it. To turn plain cider into hard cider takes yeast, all you made was frozen cider.

He could have had alcoholic cider. They do sell the stuff. I assumed he was talking about hard cider. Otherwise, yeah, you aren't generating alcohol from apple juice and cold.

It was hard cider, Woodchuck specifically. I did melt some of it, thinking that maybe some of the alcohol was trapped inside the ice lattice. Some probably was, but it was still awful. Fortunately I only ruined one of them, the rest are thawing in the shower just in case. I also have a spare six-pack under the fridge. It's warm, but at least it's liquid.

ok bro. 5% abv, same as practically every beer.

I haven't had Zima, but if you want to crap on something like it, well, you could be forgiven for hating on cider. Most of it is awful. Johnny Appleseed in particular tastes like liquefied green jolly ranchers.

Is everything but beer alcopop? Is that in the rules somewhere? There's no artificial flavorings in Woodchuck, it's just hard cider.

A lot of cider is just apple juice for grown-ups, in the same way that Smirnoff Ice is Kool-Aid for grown-ups. Drink what you like and don't let people shit on you for enjoying it.... but it's definitely a bit "lame" compared to beer or whiskey.

Yeah I know, alky is just jealous of my alcy.

We bought some of that Woodchuck cider, no one drank it at the party and liked it. I gave it to someone else that admitted they gave it away to someone else too.

Maybe Boone's is more your speed, some has 7% abv...stick with Strawberry Hill and you can brag to your bro's how you are drinking something more powerful than their beer.

That's cool bro. I'm sure I'd think lemonade is awful if I had spent my adult life cultivating a taste for diabetic piss.
