Sure it looks great but how long will it last? I say 2 years or 35,000 miles. What ever comes first. Thank got for warranties.

Hyundai needs a name change. You can't start making upscale cars and have a cheap name. Toyota IS300? I think not, my friends.

You are absolutely correct my fellow poster. Hyundai should focus on building a reputation for reliability and quality in the lower models, and afterwords introduce luxury level cars under a new name. A luxury level car at this point seems premature to me.

Also: a lot of people know Mitsubishi makes sh*t cars.

It looks great, IMO. I remember the first Hyundai cars, didn't they give you a second car free if you bought the first one :)?

<< Many people echo what you say Don, (cough Ross) but you blow your resale value on the extra cost that is Honda. ;)

As for the warranty you are missing the point. They don't offer the warranty as a hook a-la what Chrysler did. For like so many others ( and to this day) Chrysler's warranty was not transferable.. they knew damn well no one would keep their car that long.. so they did it to lure ppl in.
>>

I believe federal law modernly requires that any automobile warranty is transferrable. I don't believe this reflects, positively or negatively, on Hyundai.

Like NFS4 said, it looks like a Century or could be a Mazda 626 from the side and back and looks like a cross between a Lexus GS300 and MB C240 from the front.

Looks like they're trying for the European look instead of the "I bought this because it was dirt cheap" look.

The styling is indeed derivative, but the car looks pretty good overall.
However, I wholly agree with the general sentiment towards Hyundai expressed by Don_Vito and RossMAN. I owned an '89 Sonata and it was junk. Absolute junk.
It does appear Hyundai has made tremendous strides since their early years in the U.S., but I will most likely never drive a Korean car again after that experience.

Let's compare Hyundai and AMD

Most people hates AMD when K5, K6 was released and now people like Athlon and Duron.

Let's keep watching Hyundai in the next few years.

most of their new cars looks good and more reliable.

and don't forget their extra great warranty and service.

for the comment of Toyota IS300: there is no Lexus in Asia.

This is not correct - only Japan has no Lexus.
there are Lexus in other Asian countries, authorized dealers sell the car marked "Lexus" (may not be built 100% in japan), parallel importers sell the car marked "Toyota" IS300 (100% made in japan) directly shipped from Japan.

I drove an 89 Subaru GL and it was the worst car I've ever owned. Subaru makes some pretty highly acclaimed vehicles now.

Bober, that may be true, but I would still not go back to Hyundai. If I had owned a Subaru like yours, I would not go back to Subaru, either.

Cars are the second most expensive things people buy, and if I have a bad experience with one manufacturer, there are 20 others vying for my business. If I had owned an Accord that was as bad as my Sonata (I don't think that's possible) then I would most likely avoid Honda in the future, no matter what other people might say.

With something like a car, I am brand-loyal, and it also works in reverse. If you sell me a piece of junk for thousands of dollars, you don't get a second chance... there's too much competition.

I understand completely bigsmooth. I've been tempted a couple of times to look at Subaru wagons, but I always think back that GL and talk myself out of it. :)

It'll take time to get over that pile of junk. :p

Bober, I had a GL too and you're right that was a POS. You needed to warm the car up 30 mins in the winter else it would stall. If you had the AC you might as well push the car cause it'll go faster that way. When I hit 70MPH I always started to smell burning oil. The only thing it was good for was the snow where it really kicked butt. Otherwise, it was terrible.

This was a new car too.

Bober, exactly. Hyundai is getting a lot of good reviews these days, especially for the Elantra. I guess I should never say never, but my POS Sonata combined with my parents Kia Sportage (most underpowered thing I've ever driven) have soured me on Korean cars for at least a while.

Oh and I forgot. The best thing about the GL was opening up the hood and not seeing an engine but a little yellow spare tire!

That thing had a lawn mower engine inside!

Bwahahaha! You speak the truth. The A/C made it feel like driving a go cart.

<< The only thing it was good for was the snow where it really kicked butt. Otherwise, it was terrible. >>

Sadly, mine wasn't even an AWD. I had the FWD model. So it sucked in snow too. :( I bought it because I needed a car, and it seemed like a good deal. Now I know why it was cheap. :p

Hahaha, I remember being shocked about that also. Like I said, go cart. :D

That really is a beautiful car. I hope Hyundai is able to keep the quality improving and the prices low. A bit of serious competition is always good news for the consumer, so whether you like Hyundai or not, you should be pleased.

No, no "oficial" photos of the new tibby, Hyundai N.A. is always very tight lipped about the new models coming out here, even though they are released in Japn, and Korea a full year before we get them. So that spy photo is best thats available.

As for thier quality, hey I have said it a thousand times now, buy what YOU like. However, facts are facts, and can't be disputed. Hyundai had the fewest DR's of ANY mmajor manufacuter cept for BMW. You can't get around that. And thats damnnnnnn impressive.

As for all the others who hate them, I think that guy from Team SR said it best, "Yea, it's a Hyundai...so what? Wanna race?

The praise that has been heaped upon them in such a short time is impressive. Car & Driver, CR, Auto.com, Edmunds.

Peace... and enjoy. :)

Ross: So it rains? get a bike man. lol ;)

Altho, I think I am going to put mine up for sale. There really is nowhere around where we moved to now to ride :(

Emulex: then go to Team Shark Racing.. They have chapters all accross the USA... They will fix you up at a track with someone, who will be more than happy to race you.

Shark Racing and So Cal Graphics are co sponsers of the performance end of Hyundai cars... They just held a huge meet in Houston Texas about 1 week ago... Over 300 Cars showed up.
