Hrmmm...the front looks like a cheap knock off of a Mercedes and the back looks like a knock off of a Buick (like a Regal). I don't really like it that much...I mean, it's not bad, but just not my thing.

problem is hyundai doesn't establish a look of their own. They rip everyone elses design, and slap it all together. We know this and when we see their cars were like "thats a rip of this, thats a rip of that, they must be too cheap to hire their own designers to make their own style".

word.

i love my hyundai.. heres a little story

boss noticed my loaded 2000 hyundai elantra in the parking lot.. told me he had been looking at all types of cars for his kids and had found nothing suitable yet, so he asked me if he could test drive it. Well 20 min later he decided he was going to give his 98 mazda to his son and buy a 2001 hyundai :)

The Hynduai XG300 looks like the older Infiniti I30 !! They ripped off the front end of the I30, including the waterfall grill! However I do commend Hyndaui on giving such features such as manu-matic tranny..

Forget that Hyundai, Nissan is FAR more reliable. I sold my last Sentra with 167,000 miles. It never left me stranded, and the only repair above and beyond basic maintenance was an alternator replacement.

2002 Altima

Enjoy...

dude.. that's not the point...

At that price.. Hyundai's are a nice deal..

especially compare the American cars compared to Hyundai.. I rather give my trust into the 10 year 100000 warranty than what the US car gives....

Everyone knows nissans are nice cars... but they cost much more than Hyundai's

Good point, if I had to choose between an American car vs Hyundai I'd really be torn between who to choose. I might buy a (now defunct) Oldsmobile Intrigue, Ford something, definitely nothing Chrysler made but if my only choices were American and Hyundai, I just might go with the Hyundai.

I probably just made wyst's day!

Sorry for my blantant Nissan plug in this thread... I'm an avid Nissan fan! And if you'll look at the most recent hyundais you just may see they have a 'borrowed' look.. :) Gotta give credit where credit's due!

I am korean.. and I know the reputation that Hyundai has had.. but recently.. Hyundai has improved a lot..

also note.. that the Hyundai's in Korea aren't the same as the ones they import here.

the ones that are imported here are built much better...

It might be dude to stricter rules and regulations....

Personally several years.. back I would never buy a Hyundai.. but lately.. they have came out with some nice cars.. ie.. XG300, and the new Sonata... I haven't owned one yet.. but if they are doing what they are doing now... ( offering nice long warranty *note* even better than BMW, Mercedes, Infiniti warranty ) I might have to get one sooner or later down the line.

I have owned a chevy and that POS went dead.. after getting about 90k miles.. checked at the mechanic and the whole engine.. has been f'd up.. and they recommended we just get a diff car instead of trying to fix it.. and get same problems over and over again..

I currently own a Honda.. and am pretty happy with it.. but that doesn't mean I wont get a Hyundai in the future..

*I own a 99 Honda CR-V*

The F'd up Chevy was a 94 Cavalier..

wyst - Now that isekii mentions it I think the review I saw was for a 2001 Hyundai XG300. What do you know about that model?

Ross: Well it's for now their new flagship model, and it is 23K. They are going after the camry now.. It has a V6 makes 195HP... You can get in with their new 5speed Automatic which you can also shift manually a-al their H-Matic system.

Around Novemeber they are supposed to place the engine that Japan gets in it, which is a V6 and will easily surpass anything Nissan or Honda or Toyota has to offer in their respective cars Hp wise.

It comes with your usual stuff for a car in that area..

15" wheels
keyless entry
v-rated tires
leather
everything power
heated mirrors
cruise
6 speaker cd/cass stereo
projecter beam headlights
front and side airbags
trip computer etc...
Cept thats all standard on it. :)

They are only releasing 15 thousand of them here.. so it will be fairly rare.

Thanks for the info. So it would seem the Sonata offers the most bang for your buck, compared to all the other Hyundai's?

Hard to say...

They have not released the price for the Sonata yet, though I would think they would have to keep it in-line as their mid-level model.

Also, they are really quiet on the new Tibby.. and there is talk of turbo.. though I doubt it.

Many companies make turbo's for them already so I just don't see Hyundai doing that just yet, but who knows.

And of coourse there is the Santa Fe... I know I know.. it's an SUV and I know how you love them so.. but it is very nice.

P.S. I updated my last post , I forgot a few more standard features it has lol ;)

One thing I DO appreciate about Hyundai is their willingness to field a serious WRC entry, with a good driver (Alistair McRae) this year. That takes some cojones, and should provide some useful engineering data for them as well. Too bad the rally car is a Tiburon - that thing looks like it was penned by a hormonally overactive adolescent.

I saw a Hyundai Sonata commercial last night and for some reason burst into laughter at 2:30 AM because I was thinking of this thread.

Just thought I'd share that with ya'll.

what be the engine yo?
the 200 hp 0-60 in 6.5 doesn't tell me anything unless ya know the specs on the engine
I4 H4 v6 I6 H6?
liters?
compression ratio?
torque?
weight?

my best guess is a V6 or I6 that weights about 2500 or less with that zero to sixty

It's a V6 and Hyundai is notorious for not letting us know a lot till they bring the cars over.

Even the top Hyundai sites have lil info on it. No-one even knew what the new Elantra GT was going to have (for sure) till one month before it hit.

They also have a 240HP engine that is going in the XG300, but again no one knows when, most think next year sometime.
