Hypothetically Speaking...

OK, lock this if it's unallowed, but I don't think it is. I'm wondering, and would like to find out by way of an informal poll, how many people, hypothetically speaking, have at least 1 pirated (copied from a friend, entered in activation key that wasn't purchased, downloaded off of p2p) program on their computer, and how many do not. I am not asking this AT ALL with some kind of pro-piracy initiative, as we know, piracy is responsible for some of the exhorbitant prices of software these days, and that is not a good thing. I also realize, however, that even for people who do not agree with pirating software, sometimes it is just too easy to borrow a disc from a friend than to buy it. So, in an inquisitive and non-subversive spirit, I just thought it would be interesting to find out more about the hypothetical characteristics of the people who make up Anandtech. So, in a hypothetical world, would you say you probably or probably do not have at least 1 program you shouldn't? I'll go first,

Hypothetically speaking, probably yes.

I went first, the poll was 1 yes, 0 no. If we want, we could do it in a simpler way for poll purposes. Simply a + or a - sign could work. Or pizza (yes) hamburger (no). Just something so we can have some idea of percentage was what I had in mind.

Hypothetically speaking....

Those that have one or two pirated sets of software on their system problably don't want all of ATOT knowing about it. Regardless if my answer is pizza, hamburger, or OMGWTFBBQ, it still shows up right beside my name.

Unless you add an anonymous poll, you're not going to get many answers.

I once got banned from a website for joking about "warezing" a freeware program so I do not joke about this anymore. 😛

I have no pirated programs at all... Back when I was in high school I would do stuff like that, nowadays I just pay for my software.

Yeah, the thread has ended up pathetically, I must admit. Oh well, I thought it was a good idea. But, yes, for people who are wondering, by hypothetically, I meant off the record. To keep it in the realm of technical fantasy, so nobody has to say, "Oh yeah, I download warez all the time," but can just give noncommittal answer due to "hypothetical" being the way out. I thought adding the hypothetical would still make for an interesting poll, but I guess not 🙂

well, hypothetically speaking, it would be better if you actually have a poll. 😀

Well, it's a poll if you count up the answers, minus the comments that don't give an answer. As I count it, I see 4 yes, 2 no.

You can add an actual poll to your original post. Just edit your first post and there should be a button that says "Add Poll".

I don't think I have any pirated stuff anymore, but I do have a few in the grey area. (ie: edumacational versions while I'm no longer a student)
